(More seriously, another big issue with your suggestion is that "real Japanese" has no guarantees on coverage; if I have no reason to write, say, 挨拶 for a year, neither of those characters (which are mostly used in that word) will get practiced at all during that year. You might as well ask the people at the driving range why they aren't practicing "real golf".)
