So after reaching ３級 and seeing my studying significantly slowing, I thought I'd try out Heisig. I'm kind of unsure about the general approach to actually studying with the Heisig. Do I just read the story connect it to the keyword, write it a few times and then put it into anki? And it's keyword->kanji correct?

I'm pretty much a complete beginner to how to start with Heisig. I did read the introduction and am familiar with the overall approach, benefits etc; I've basically lurked these forums for awhile (see registration date) but never bothered to read this part of the forum. Well anyway any help and tips are welcome! I'm pretty sure there are some similar threads out there also so if you can direct me to those that would also be awesome!

Well, what you say is basically correct, however; really try to imagine the imagery that the stories give. See it in your mind. That's the idea behind the stories.

Yes, the idea is to pick a story, make a clear visual image in your head about it, write the kanji out once or twice. Then you can enter them in an SRS like anki or the one on this site specially made for RTK.

The idea is not to remember the story word by word, as some do, but to create a sort of image (combining the different primitives of the kanji) in your imagination about the story.

Sometimes the story in the book just doesn't make sense / is to vague for you. You should either make up your own story about it, or look on this site and copy someone else's story (like i... *cough* uhm the lazy people do ). Once you are in the 3rd part of the book, Heising wont even give you stories, so you'll have to do this eventually anyways.
