how to see japanese tv

#26
Works fine for me, but my college has a fairly fast connection.

Wooow... I know this isn't the place for this discussion, but I just have to throw in a quick comment: I feel like I don't need nearly as long of an attention span to watch Japanese TV. The commercials are so fast and weird...

And apparently there is a way to get this on an iPhone, but it involves rebroadcasting it from your computer to your iPhone via Wi-fi and wi-fi points aren't that reliable for me.

Can someone confirm these are not just the same channels that LiveStation has?

I have no idea why, but I tend to go towards TBS.

By the way, does anyone know of an easy way to set up a system to record stuff at a specific time? All the good stuff is on when I'm asleep =(

Looks to mostly the same as livestation with some different ones. http://www.livestation.com/ (works on windows, linux, mac) I'll make a comparison when I get some time.

TBS is my favourite channel too!
Yep, there is a way to record: http://allp2ptv.org/record-p2p-tv-program.htm

I don't think that you can watch fuji tv, tbs, asahi tv and so on on livestation.

Ah, I know how to record, but I was wondering if there was a way to automatically start and stop recording at set times. I guess it'll be easier just to record everything overnight and cut out the bit's that I want.

Wow... I actually used TVAnts a long time ago and it wasn't even close to this good. For me, it took about a minute to buffer and connect, but after that it flows perfectly and the audio is very good.

Now I finally have a good way of watching campus night fuji Big Grin

launch it, select tvants, open timer tab.

I think this one is better. It's also freeware.

It worked great for me! Smooth and good quality of video and audio.

As much as I love this program, I don't think my monthly usage quota allow me to watch Japanese TV that often.. =(

I don't understand why they put a monthly quota. Why not a daily quota? If you use up all your quota in a week, that means you have to go three weeks without a connection! But if you use up a day's worth, all you have to do is wait a day.

You should get an unlimited package, much better Wink

I had a monthly quota and couldn't watch video much either last year. I was renting a room where I couldn't get cable internet and had to use a Verizon wireless plan. The last week of each month I had to limit my use to less than an hour or risk the heavy penalties, 2~3x's my $60 monthly fee! Never again will those Verizon crooks get my money!

Yes you can. Only they have Asahi TV but it never works for me. They have NNN news though which that other one doesn't seem to?

I think there are a bunch of internet TV channels that you can stream for free and all these different ones just sign up and provide the stream, so differences are minimal. LiveStation is quite a sexy application so I recommend trying it out though.

Yes, but are recorded news. I used livestation, but i think that for japanese channels isn't good. Only few channels work and are avaible without livestation also

Yea. One of the great things about TVAnts is that it is a live stream. Unfortunately that means Prime Time shows are on at 3am my time. Though, there is always something interesting on one of the main six channels it seems.

After messing with it some more, I found that some channels play fine while others don't.

Really good quality too.

Cool. Livestation never worked without stuttering like crazy... TvAnts buffers for ages but seems really smooth after some time. Even with linux behind a firewall

Sadly, there is no unlimited package here in Toronto, Canada.
I imagine it would be crazy expensive since my 60GB/Month plan is around 50 dollars already. I get charged for 2.5 dollars for every GB I used over the limit with a maximum charge of 25 dollars.
Since I have quite a few people who uses the Internet regularly, 60GB is barely enough. =(

Thanks, I can finally watch some Japanese TV again. This hasn't been the case since the good channels on livestation disappeared and freshverse became private. So it's been a while Smile

Speaking of freshverse, it seems that the stream is back up again. (If you want an invite I can send you one btw)

Loads of stuff on YouTube. Latest news, `variety` shows, comedy.

Now that I get live feeds of Japanese TV, I keep watching the door waiting for NHK to knock and ask for "voluntary" user fees.
