Actually, I still don't think you have enough power to install new extensions, though I could be wrong.

In terms of copyright, the morpheme lists might be OK since for most list you would be able to claim that it is your work. Not so sure about the subtitles though - maybe claiming that it is for educational purposes and that the subtitles are only a small percentage of the "material" from the DVD.
We would need to make those type of files uploadable... I think to change that, it is similar to installing new extensions in that you need to edit files from the server.
the other option is to upload the files as ".txt" files (but this is not desirable).

Third party sites would also work, like they put up for subs2srs Anki decks on the wiki.
When I think back to iKnow/smart.fm, when they started putting custom lists from native media on the site, how did they handle that? Did they just get permission for a small number of official lists, and/or mainly the ones that had audio/pictures? Otherwise it's just a list of words with a label.
Edit: By the way, I guess it's obvious, but I think a huge important thing for this wiki is ensuring that all the great information on this forum—past, present, and future, gets transferred to the wiki, even if it's just linking to discussion topics from various pages and sections so that the forum has a sort of semantic front-end that makes it much easier to navigate by topics, for us and for new users. So, uh, yeah, just wanted to stress that for anyone reading who hasn't contributed but maybe wants to help with that. The wiki formatting's pretty intuitive once you get the hang of it; often you can just copy what previous contributors did. ^_^
Recently I've been trying to add to the foundation or skeleton, so to speak, so it's easier to just slot in information, but I imagine more organized and wiki savvy folks will gradually rework stuff over time.
Still hoping Nuriko and Nukemarine will wikify their threads. ;p Lots of wikification of important topics or extracting links from topics and slotting them into various places would be useful.

Was that smart.fm doing those native media? or was it user created?
Incidentally, do you know what license the smart.fm lists were published under? They seemed to be pretty open about things back in the day (they had an interface for programmers).

Yeah there's basically no good UI to see IPs and set up bans. It's "how to do something simple every forum does" really really complicated.
I didn't want to setup more than one admin to be honest. I don't know how to setup the equivalent of forum moderators on the Wiki.

* protect pages
* delete pages, and
* block users/IPs
Below an admin is a 'bureaucrat', which I think is just the same, but without the ability to promote other users to admin.

Yeah I think the admin position for the wiki is just like a mod on forums. I guess I can't ban Fabrice and gdaxeman and take over the wiki.
The bureaucrat position, however, seems to have the opposite power that Boy.pockets noted, i.e. they *can* appoint/eliminate (I mean... demote) sysops/admins.

In the wiki we (the users) consolidate the useful and relevant things we find on the forums/Internet by getting rid of duplicates, merging multiple forum comments about the same thing into a single and more comprehensive wiki entry, fixing grammatical errors, adding links and such, making it a great reference and starting point for language learning and stuff. In there, we can also add things that can't be found elsewhere when that's the case, that is, original content just for the wiki. It will be our own language-learning online encyclopedia.

Boy.pockets you should have rights now to edit the CSS and Javascript pages. Use it well

ファブリス Wrote:Boy.pockets you should have rights now to edit the CSS and Javascript pages. Use it well ;):) Thank you!
To all: I have added the CSS and Javascript that is on Wikipedia - so any styles and funky buttons that you see on wikipedia, should be able to be copied straight over to the koohi wiki without any problems. For example, the standard style used in tables of wikipedia is called "wikitable", so instead of specifying all the style attributes individually (border width, colour etc), you can just specify this css class, like so:
Code:
{| class="wikitable"
! Heading of column one
! Heading of column two
|-
| contents of column one, row one
| contents of column two, row one
|-
|}I don't think I have broken any existing style on the wiki, because there was almost nothing there to begin with. If there are problems, please let me know about it and I will try and track it down.

I finally added my list of free resources to the Wiki (under Japanese learning websites). I also added a page for Japanese for Everyone under the textbooks section. Feel free to edit or add to my changes.
Edit: Actually, now that I look at it, maybe I should add my list under the Resources section? Anyone have a preference?

Thanks for adding to the wiki. I think it has the potential to be a really useful resource. If even half of what was on the forums was on there it would be a wonderland for new Japanese learners.
It seems to me that Japanese learning websites should be part of the resources section, but either way, if something belongs to both catagories there's no reason not to put it in both. The important thing is to make sure people can find the resources they need.

Hello, as I proposed a few days ago (here, but didn't get any reply: http://forum.koohii.com/showthread.php?tid=8870) I added an "English" section to the page http://rtkwiki.koohii.com/wiki/Subs2srs and uploaded a first deck (470 cards from the 3 seasons of The Boondocks).
I hope it will be useful to somebody!

I just created a new page in the wiki to compare the major textbooks:
http://rtkwiki.koohii.com/wiki/Compariso...ooks_Table
I also created a discussion topic for it here:
http://forum.koohii.com/showthread.php?p...#pid159236
If you own one of the major textbooks, please contribute!
If you have any suggestions for other criteria that should be added, or books that should be added, please update the table or post in the discussion topic.
Even though I'm a coder I'm not too familiar with wiki markup. So if you know how to make the table prettier go right ahead and edit it! It looks awful right now :-). I just wanted to get the skeleton up.
Also, I accidentally created an extra page called Comparison_of_Japanese_Textbooks_Chart. I didn't see an obvious way to delete it. So whoever has control over that, can you get rid of it? It's just a blank page. Thanks!

Just a heads up that I started working on authenticating all forum users on the Wiki. This should be ready next week.
I have deleted my previous two posts regarding the manual account creation as it will no longer be necessary.
edit: I wish I had thought of this before. It solves the issue with spam accounts (the forum has much better spam prevention in place, including custom IP range bans when necessary). And then you can have meaningful conversations here about additions to the Wiki, as all the usernames can be matched to the Wiki edit history.

Great idea! Maybe this will help the wiki get more regular editors.

TEMPORARY
The wiki is currently down because there is an unexpected error with the new authentication system.
It's a bit late now, so I'll look into bringing it back up tomorrow with the new forum authentication.

Welp, I wish this didn't take so long >_>
On the plus side wiki will be upgraded to 1.24.1.
Are there any extensions you want, while I'm at it? I've enabled Cite atm.
