Using imaginitive to remember unfamilar english words

#1
In going over RTK3 and there was a few English words that i had to rely on rote or muscle memory to take in, namely Bracken, Plotosid, Zelkova (Botanical area is not my forte) their are just some of the few examples found in RTK3 (or some in RTK1). But becoming familiar with the RTK method and using it to save time and increase memory effectiveness i've applied it to English and I'm not too sure if people already do this, if its a topic previously brought up or if I'm just plain ignorant but I find it easier to use phonetics and use a single or combination of words or even seperate segments in words as a story for me to remember not just writing the kanji but the associated word for it.

Example Story: Kanji - ZELKOVA (2527) -Anna kourni-KOVA with that over ZEL(zeal)-ous ability, she should be the STANDARD goal for beginner players starting off with WOODEN rackets wanting to become pro.

Obviously there's is no one similar sounding word to Zelkova in my vocabulary (or or least that i can remember) for me to use in that as a link, then theirs also the issue of remembering the placement that the ZEL(ZEAL) comes before KOVA but thats the only work left for you to remember just identifying and piecing those parts of the puzzle together. Now i said this works for me and "To each his own"... not too sure if others would find it useful but i was wondering if anyone else used this method or if they would have any suggestions on alternatives.

Thanks in advance
