JimmySeal Wrote:I tried out the new Kanken DS 2 yesterday, and I'm pleased to say it has made a number of improvements over the original.Looks interesting. I don't have either; are they complimentary in some way, or should I skip the original entirely in favor of this new release?
ファブリス Wrote:The DS Lite should be fully compatible with the DS, it was a revision which improved, among other things the quality of the screen. Some shops might still sell the original version but you should buy the Lite one.ファブリスーさん - Thank you very much for the help. I really appreciate your suggestions. I am going to get a DS and a few of the games that you mentioned along with a Jiten software. Is there anything I need to save games on? I am really excited about using this.
Kieron Wrote:Looks interesting. I don't have either; are they complimentary in some way, or should I skip the original entirely in favor of this new release?Skip the original. The newer version is simply an improvement on the original! Unfortunately I don't have the new version yet

JimmySeal Wrote:そ still comes up as と quite often though.I had this problem on the original too. But then I started to write my そs like a lot of the kids at my school do it. You know the 2 stroked そ、it works perfectly.
jondesousa Wrote:Do you guys use a DS or a DS Lite? Are the games interchangeable between the two systems? The DS Lite has four backlight settings: bright, brighter, brightest, and death. In additional to being ludicrously sexy, the DSL has a stronger battery, so it's well worth whatever extra you might end up paying for it.
Kieron Wrote:Looks interesting. I don't have either; are they complimentary in some way, or should I skip the original entirely in favor of this new release?Yep, like synewave said, the new one makes the old one obsolete. Pretty sure it contains all the questions the first one did, and at least for now, it's cheaper!
synewave Wrote:I had this problem on the original too. But then I started to write my そs like a lot of the kids at my school do it. You know the 2 stroked そ、it works perfectly.Yea, I noticed I could do that to, but I just can't bring myself to do it. :/
jondesousa Wrote:I am going to get a DS and a few of the games that you mentioned along with a Jiten software. Is there anything I need to save games on? I am really excited about using this. Each original Nintendo DS cartridge has its own little memory chip, so there is no separate memory card to buy. Each game/software will let you save typically from 2 to 4 games. Most learning software give you 4 saving slots because there aren;t that much data to save but games like Zelda offers two slots, and some games even just one savegame.
JimmySeal Wrote:There is a completely new, blocky font that isn't as attractive as the old one in my opinion, but is easier to read. While I agree that the font looks simpler, I noticed that "busy" characters look more like blobs of colour than proper kanji. Maybe it just takes a bit of getting used to.
JimmySeal Wrote:Oh, and technically, the name of the game is 財団法人 日本漢字能力検定協会 公認 漢検DS2 + 常用漢字辞典. Gosh, they need to find less ridiculously long names for their video games. It looks like they've got some competition in the works. Tokotan 2 comes out next month, with the full title of 財団法人日本漢字能力検定協会公式ソフト 250万人の漢検 新とことん漢字脳 47,000+常用漢字辞典 四字熟語辞典. The box alone drastically exceeds my reading ability!
revenantkioku Wrote:I got Kanken2 and the lack of something like a "Hey, you've studied every question in this section" marker bugs me. I'm a statistics and numbers whore, and hell without it I dunno if I should be spending more time on a level or not. From the main menu go to the last section (green bar) 成績閲覧 then from there the left bar 漢字検定.
Did pass the 10級 though. Woo~
Christoph Wrote:From the main menu go to the last section (green bar) 成績閲覧 then from there the left bar 漢字検定.Thanks a bunch for the tip. I also didn't know how to check my level. That is awesome.
From there you can look at bar graph(left 達成率) statistics showing how much of the total material you have covered for each level, and pie chart stats(right 総合力) for how well you are doing on the different sections (reading, writing, etc.) of each level.
nac_est Wrote:I'm about to buy a DS and I'm thankful for your suggestions about those kanji games. I think I'll start with 漢検DS2, かきとりくん and 漢字そのまま.Yeay!!! I finally got my DS for Christmas and I got the games and dictionary that nac_est mentioned. They are awesome. I am quite excited to work with them. Unfortunately, it is back to work for the rest of the week.
But other than those, I'd like to get a real game too, for generic practice. Someone suggested ゼルダの伝説 夢幻の砂時計 on another thread. Do you have other suggestions or comments? I'd like something fun, not too difficult (I'm at the JLPT ~3 level), possibly with furigana.
I know this is the "kanji games" thread, but it probably isn't worth opening a new one just for this...
