Well said. What I'm talking about is weaning oneself from learning methods other than normal language usage. Any plans for doing that?

Considering the fact that normal usage is a method in itself, I don't think it's possible. Speaking in a less global sense, at some point you have to review what you know, or you're just wasting your time. If you have a definite plan, to just go to Japan and live there forever with no intention of heading home or learning any other language then a weening of phase would make sense, though.
