Where do you get your Japanese music

#1
I'm unable to buy Japanese music, as I'm not in Japan and it's otherwise impossible to buy it online. Therefore, I have a complete lack of Japanese music. So, what are your best resources for Japanese music. Links appreciated. Yes, this is what we call "pirated music", but we're learning Japanese here; I need music, and it's too bad that I can't buy it.

I found this pretty awesome site:

You can listen online, or you can just take the artist names and download the whole discography in thepiratebay or something.

It's not impossible to buy it online, actually. Ebay, Amazon.co.jp... I'm sure there are Japanese retailers that would be perfectly happy to ship to the US.

download...
I love Chinese people lol. there's a bunch of times where I just google artists, album/single name + mediafire or megaupload and it's on some chinese site.
There's livejournal, there's forums, there's these 2 sites that is like either run by japanese or chinese people that update like daily with all the new releases (mostly mainstream crap but I found some good shit there.). I dont' think I should post it?

imeem.com is nice (don't use much cause I download but it's good to test out if you like some artist or song)

I have my sites. I never use torrent unless that's like the only way... which it really never is.

Even if you were in Japan, CDs are really expensive in Japan so...

I bought one "album" and it was 3200 yen. There were cheaper "single" releases of songs (usually 3-4 songs, where more than half is usually a remix) for 1200 yen. I don't know if this was because that band was all the rage back then or what or if things have improved since 2000, but by golly, buying a CD must be for special occasions only, like for when you get a big raise on your salaryman wages.

first I go on Jpopasia.com to find new songs that are out... or just ones I haven't heard yet ^^ and then I use both http://aimini.net/ and http://www.4shared.com/ to DL them.... and if I can't find it there (like with newer songs) I just rip them from youtube.

I'm sort of having the same problem. The main thing is I like to listen to oldies, specifically songs from the 1950s and 60s. I found 2 artists I like (Yuzo Kayama and Kyu Sakamoto) but it's hard to find a large amount of those songs online. It's not like finding an Elvis song, which is almost everywhere. At the moment I only use YouTube. I haven't been able to find any other sites.

They are expensive here in Japan - but how about trying your local Book Off? I manage to get my enka fix buying used CDs there...

I would really recommend a program called Soulseek. I find tons of really obscure stuff using that, it even has a Japanese Music chat room built into it (along with many others).

Yeah, that's a really good program for the less obvious stuff! Do you know how do do unicode search in Soulseek? (e.g. searching for hiragana/kanji words)

Amen for MP3 blogs! Just don't tip off Google. http://blogsearch.google.com/

When I'm feeling lazy (which is often), I have a few private music torrent trackers which occasionally have goodies as well, but rarely the really obscure stuff - that's where blogsearch really tends to shine.

I agree with j-pop.cn.

I like jpmp3.com the most though, seems to the latest releases the fastest.

I highly recommend buying from a secondhand shop. You can get some incredible discounts, especially if the CD is an older release. 200円 for a CD is not bad at all.
