Tobberoth Wrote:We desperately need more people to join. It's a really fun and fast way to discuss Japanese, more people need to try it out.
you know I like initiative , talking and all ...
but face it : you can t create myriad of communities and expect everyone to catch up
in RTK related group , and I m no expert , we have at least
yahoo group
google group
twitter
irc
and this very website

On top of this think that time alloted to japanese is limited .
Even for those not interested by japenese ,after years of social networking , lot of people are now trying to DISCONNECT themselves . Too much time consuming.

Now we just need a server with a truckload of Japanese subs to join... !gimme

Ghinzdra, I don't think you know much about how irc works. Try it and see that it's not all that bad.

I don't think much socializing goes on in warez channels.

IRC shouldn't be compared to Twitter. Twitter isn't a chat, it's an overhyped copy of the least important part of facebook Tongue. When people use Twitter to chat, it becomes impossible to use. Your history gets filled by crap you care nothing about. IRC lets groups of people talk as if they were in the same room, you can have fairly deep conversations.

IRC doesn't mean you have to be on at all times, in fact, most people aren't. We're just in there, idling, looking at the chat once every 10 minutes or so. When a fun discussion pops up, it's easy to jump in.

don t think so.... Big Grin
lurk is just the most obvious answer...and btw while the search can be executed on the webstie if you want to download you re bound to use IRC. So it rather confirm the natural answer to my rethorical question about the interest of IRC
But let s say I want some classic like tezuka's adolf... or a very recent release and I dont have knowlege of which teams are into raw.
Well you can find that stuff and it s not even on IRC.

Anyway I feel like there s some kind of misunderstanding . I m not saying IRC is old fashioned , harmful or merely useless ... I m just saying that it s an another communication/socialization device and you can t expect everyone to be connected to a dozen of those

No, I'm expecting people to be connected to it instead of the other crap since IRC is clearly superior.

I suggest moving servers to a server that I can actually connect to. ircnet is a piece of shit. Efnet?

And rrray in answering your question seriously, a *usable* irc client try KVirc.

I frequent the #Japanese on 2chan (its also linked to Rizon). What's stopping us from all going there?

I don't get it...are you suggesting that irssi isn't usable, and then suggesting something that looks like THIS: http://www.kvirc.net/img/themes/theme_marble.jpg

(just grabbed the first screenshot off their site)

Is that enough icons, menus, windows, and random shit? Does it read your email too?

Like I said, first screenshot from the official site. I didn't even look at the others. If that's not how they want to represent their software, why would they even have that screenshot?

The shot you posted looks a lot better. I'll now admit that KVirc seems to be fine. I'm still curious why you think irssi is unusable though.

Also: there's no reason to make this personal and question my maturity. We're talking about IRC clients here. I don't have a single negative thing to say about you, I don't even know you. I was only commenting on the program you recommended.

That's not how they represent their software, they are a bunch of themes to select from.

Anyway, Nii87 I go there sometimes too. I still think it'll be cool for a sep rtk community as well. I just can't seem to connect to any ircnet gateway.

Okay guys I've just registered a channel #rtk in rizon

irc.rizon.net

I figure rizon is better than efnet as it has more manga channels which is where you guys seem to idle most Tongue

I'd love to see tobberoth, magamo and ice back in there Big Grin

Oh, I didn't notice this thread. I've been talking with ice on the old channel wondering why you don't show up.
