Wow! that is super sweet!

Someone needs to make a Anki deck out of that show!

Too bad you can't get rid of the subs. It'd be a good source for vocab/sentence mining (after I finish RTK1) if they weren't so distracting.

Haha that was awesome but weird! Since when did Spider-man giant flying robots??

Oddly had almost the exact same structure as an episode of Power Rangers, namely:

- Evil witch tries to take over world.
- Witch sends forth minions. Fight. Hero wins.
- Witch summons monster. Fight. Hero wins.
- Monster increases to super-size. Fight. Monster wins.
- Hero increases to super-size. Fight. Hero wins

Guess this is a tried and tested formula is Japanese fantasy shows.

Hang on, are you saying Power Rangers is Japanese? Holy crap I never realised (I never realised Pokemon was Japanese as a kid, either. You kind of just assume every TV show you watch is American). Gotta get me a hold of some of that! >_>

It is my specialty when it comes to 特撮 shows. I have only seen a few episodes of this show, but it is a classic and fun to watch even though it was so before my time! haha

Also, you wont find Japanese subs with these unless they are from non-legitimate sources as I own the DVDs, and they do not come with subs.

LOL yes. for the early seasons anyway!! Naturally the speaking parts with Japanese actors were replaced with scenes of American actors, but the fight scenes remained the same.

Didn't you ever wonder why Rita Repulsa was Japanese, and why her voice was so badly dubbed?

Not remained the same, but yeah, the footage for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers is stolen directly from a Japanese Super Sendai show. The Japanese show is completely different though (hell, the yellow ranger is a dude in the original), so only parts of the fighting scenes are retained in the American version and it's usually mixed up.

Not just the early seasons. The only Super Sentai series I've watched is Gekiranger, which aired a couple years ago. Last year or so it became...um...."Jungle Fury" or something in the US.

I've now watched like 6 episodes of Japanese Spiderman (in the background, while working). Man it's awesome in a WTF kind of way.

It's got me thinking about Netflixing Ultraman DVDs, which have Japanese language options. Haven't watched those since the very early 80s, as a kid.
