First don't get discouraged, the road is long for all of us, don't worry you'll get there if you keep going at it.
Now, I find よつばと to be simply the easiest manga I've read (or attempted to read

) in Japanese but that doesn't mean it's a piece of cake for everyone. If that's basically the first time you're being exposed to real casual Japanese there is a lot that will confuse you. Nice example sentences from dictionaries or KO2001 will not prepare you for that.
Now what can you do to get over that wall?
1) Simply read it. Don't worry if you don't understand just read. And not just the first volume read the whole thing and read some other manga too. Just reading will help gain the experience needed for better understanding. Watching anime can also help.
2) Read some explanations about casual Japanese. Some japanesepod101 podcasts focus on casual Japanese. The old Mangajin magazines used to decode manga line by line. There are a few books with explanations too. Unfortunately, I don't really know one resource that contains everything you need to know but the information is out there.
3) Ask questions on forums, I'm not saying you should post every sentence you don't understand but when you start noticing some repeating pattern that bothers you, it's OK to ask.
4) Keep learning more vocabulary and grammar with sentences. You just need to accumulate a lot of vocabulary and grammatical patterns. Try to go as fast as you can.
