I'm moving to China the 20th of next month, to do full term language study and my hope is that withing one year be able to pass the HSK and study for a degree program(to finish what I've already done in the states).
I have 4 weeks left, what's the most important thing to be done, I am also studying Japanese, but right now I am starting to really put my attention heavily onto the Chinese.
I have to this point been putting an even focus of getting sentences and Hanzi finished, but at this pace I will not complete the last 1550 Hanzi from the smart.fm list, before I leave to go to China. I am thinking about really starting to prioritize Hanzi acquisition over Sentences, my thinking goes, that as soon as I get to China, I will be surrounded by Hanzi, and 90% of those Hanzi have ONLY ONE READING AS THAT!, so, I figure if I learn the last 1550 in the 30 days before I go, I will be ready and familiar with 98% of the Hanzi in use, so then its just a matter, of learning their reading when I get there which I think will come much quicker as, I will finally be able to make an ideal environment for myself since I will have my own place for the first time. Right now I am restricted to enviroment-izing my room only, that's just lame... Also, Now I can sanction the restroom as Japanese only, and stick some manga in there haha(getting off topic, so)
Opinions should I almost, solely focus on getting those Hanzi down? I know I could get them done in 30 days because I finished RTK in 22, and that was 2040 characters, I only need 1550 and have more time. I'm just thinking that I will be incredibly ahead of the class, being able to recognize and write 98% of the Hanzi from memory before even arriving. I think that would let me really focus on grammar, and listening/speaking when I get there, with a lot less concern in the reading/writing department.
Opinions?
Also, when I get to China I figure I can get Crazy as hell with sentences and do as many as possible per day as I can, but I will try to enjoy Shanghai a bit too(with the trusty mp3 of course)
