Why not Taiwan? Because it's a small island, I might as well just go to China if that. I speak fluent Mandarin and I love Chinese history, but I'm not into the trends in entertainment or events on the mainland as I am with Japan.
Why not Spain? Even though I've taken 5 years of Spanish, I would be culturally lost in Spain. I don't any know of the TV shows, or slang, or youth culture, or political climate, etc. of Spain as I do of Japan.
Why not Australia? Ditto above.
Why not stay in NYC? Well again, this is of course only my own take on it, but I'm sick of going on blind dates or friend's recommendations girls' who end up with none of what I'm looking for. And (unfortunately) what I look for isn't common in NYC.

They all seem to be avid readers. It just my stupid brain tells me a girl who is kind, gentle, and caring, and who like me, is physically a virgin will be such a place.Roger that, another vote for libraries. Thank you.

Or did I miss some of your posts?Additional reasons are what I've read about dating in Japan in singles or dating forums for English speakers on the internet. Some personal stories from my Japanese e-mail pals. The "kawaii" cultural phenomenon that corresponds so closely to what I also appreciate. And to explore my Japanese roots, especially my Grandma's experience in World War II in Tokyo.
