I have an iphone and it doesn't support soft sub in any way...
I tryed with virtualdub but the subs are not read correctly...only a bunch of strange shapesXD

Someone else will have to help on the PC side...

I use AVI ReComp to hard sub regular subtitles, so i guess it will work with any subtitle file, including japanese. Haven´t used it in a while but it´s very easy to use, just a few clicks and wait for your video to come out hardsubbed. Cheers

You can do it easily in VirtualDub. But you have to change the "Language for non-Unicode programs" to Japanese. (Control Panel > Regional and Language Options > Advanced)

When you finish, change it back to the original language.

You could try eRightSoft SUPER. Their website is horrible but the software has worked well for me. For example, I converted some videos to DivX so I could play it on my DVD player, and it's basically a checkbox on whether you want it to include subs in the video or not. There is a default option for iPhone, then you drag and drop the files onto the program and click convert, so it should be pretty easy. The files go into C:\program files\eRightSoft\SUPER\output
