Hello from a newbie

Hello everyone,
Just registered.
Wow, what a cool site this is.Lots of thanks to the administrator and all of you guys for many useful suggestions and pieces of advice, etc.
I am right at the beginning of my Heisig journey and learning Japanese in general, but comming across this site has encouraged me on my quest.
As a beginner to Japanese I got some materials recently (days rather than weeks) and I hope, I will be able to share with you my impressions on how usefull I find the resources over some time.
I don't do any formal classes and the main text I use is:
An Introduction to Modern Japanese.
It comes in two self contained volumes which work together nicely.
The kana is introduced from lesson one and that's how I came across the Heisig method (with his book on remembering kana).
I know you giants are learning many kanji a day, but for me it was fun to be able to read my first lesson entirely in kana with no romaji after a couple of days!
For light relief I am also using:
Japanese the Manga Way by Wayne P. Lammers , which I find very entertaining but solid at the same time.
I also use lots of audio materials to expose myself to some form of spoken language.
I particularly like the Plimseur course.
I needed some help without a teacher so got an exchange language partner locally, joined a Japanese conversation group and thanks to advice on this site got some Japanese speakers through Skype.
I am hoping to start Remembering Kanji book this weekend; I am still learning katakana from the first Heisig book Smile.
Anyway, this has grown into a long post.
Best wishes everyone.
Derek
