Hard to know what rings some folk's bell ...

I have to laugh about being "reported" for 1542. I could care less, but I maintain there is absolutely *nothing* there worthy of a "report". Yup, I changed the keyword, and noted it, and it's a perfectly valid change that every dictionary I've seen supports better than the original.

1247? Ah, perhaps one could quibble with the connotation I've given to "copy". But there ain't a darn thing wrong with the story or the primitives, really.

Some bells go off pretty easy. Smile

You should see my story for "genius".

It's beautiful, scary, and mind numbing at the same time.

People are so excited when they see it, their hands are shaking so they hit the report button instead of the star Smile

Yup, it's all of those, and maybe more.

Ah, *now* I understand why those two of mine got dinged. Wink

Nothing, of course. I wouldn't have been too surprised that there was a wacko lurking somewhere who thinks the story is some sort of sacrilege, but I'm rather surprised there's apparently a handful and more. It's pretty close to a pictograph.

I wondered about that before, reporting stuff for reasons other than mistakes in primitives or misinformation is just plain silly. Whatever makes it stick for someone is all that counts, possible obscenity, political preference, etc are all to be disregarded (of course within the boundaries of acceptable social internet forum conduct).

It's not really a story, though, is it?

I think there is a several orders of magnitude difference between objecting to projectX's stories, which were made public for God only knows what reason, and speculating that some stories get dinged for absolutely no conceivable reason. But then that's just me. I can clearly see the striking difference. Smile

Doesn't *need* to be a story. Have you read through the introduction to the site? It can be a simple mnemonic, anything that leads quickly to the primitives or the kanji.

Ha ha ha ha! Some clown dinged 'em both again. Smile

Ding away, dingbats. It helps *ME* absolutely *CEMENT* them into my memory as I check to see if there is any conceivable reason for your dingy ding.

So bring 'em on! Smile

Since you asked, I shall spell it out for you.

On September 11, two companions crumbled down to the ground, they crumbled down from the height of a mountain down to the height of crumble, the 'mountain companions' as they were known, or the 'twin towers'. All this happened on September 11.

I decided to write "September 11", because I figured the above would be implied.

It's a pictograph. Don't bother casting pearls before swine. Smile

Maybe I'm being very slow but I can't work out why 14 people starred your story, why 12 people reported it, or what it means at all.

Is there a reference that I'm missing?

The story is just "ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Genius!"

Since the character closely resembles the katakana オ, which I assume a learner of Japanese may know(or may not), I think it's easy to remeber.

His Genius is just playing off the letter オ in a dramatic way. As far as the reports, who knows. Someone may have hit report by accident and others piled on for what ever reason. I don't really understand what purpose report serves now. It rarely means there is a mistake that needs to be looked into.

I've created 35 separate accounts for that purpose alone! Mwhahahahahahaaa.

I did laugh at 1558 (sex) to see all the top stories reported, with absolutely nothing wrong with them.

No, I haven't read the intro. I don't use the RevTK area of this site. If simple mnemonics are okay by the rules, then whatever.

I always report all the stories I like just so I can come and read threads complaining about the reporting.

Very true. There would be a lot fewer, too, if it wasn't anonymous, and along with identifying yourself you had to state a reason. Smile Gutless wonders abound.

I have been wondering about this a lot, too. I think it would help everyone if you all of the warnings required a reasoning that you could go look at and read. This would make a nice feature, in my opinion

Completely missed it because in my head, "ooooo" sounds like the oo from moo. Thanks.

I think your contributions to this thread clearly demonstrate why this would be a bad idea. The forums do not need more confrontation and I hope that this post can be taken as reasonably non-confrontational. In the space of one page, you have called the people who reported your stories dingbats, wackos, swine, clowns and gutless wonders. Within your story itself, you have called them simpletons. Whoever they are, I'm happy that they aren't retaliating in this thread.

Reporting should be for administrators to take note of. I believe that Fabrice is the only one. If you're confident that there's nothing wrong with your story, the administrators should leave it alone.

Reporting your story will only make it more noticeable so if you're confident that your story isn't offensive, I'd just appreciate the added publicity. I'd imagine that most people probably reported for one of two reasons

1. They wanted to warn other users that choosing your alternative keyword will mean that they have to switch another keyword too. (This sounds reasonable to me)
2. They got irritated with your complaints on this thread. (The sort of retaliation I was referring to above)
