Some people care about privacy and don't want the their files accessed by Dropbox staff & co.
Not so important for anki decks though.

I do realize encrypting private stuff would be useful, but for anki decks it seems a bit pointless. You would lose a lot of functionality from dropbox, like being able to access your files through the web interface or using it as a place to store media for the online Anki.

I tried TrueCrypt out btw. Sounds really cool how you can have a hidden operating system =D

Yes, I realize now that you might have been referring to Anki, and I should have been more clear in my transition, so in that sense, it wasn't a dumb question. ;p

I meant 'stuff' in general, such as pirated films and music (I heard people have those), but actually, I don't sync(h) my Anki deck, because I'm neurotically self-conscious about my studies (I don't think I've ever, in nearly 1000 posts, mentioned things like my deck stats here), and I'm neurotically paranoid about the pirated learning materials I use to fuel my cards. Hypothetically speaking, because all of my resources are totally paid for, I have receipts. No offense to resolve, I'm sure he's not a spy. ;p

PS - Anyone read this, about 'cloud' servers? Interesting summary of the infrastructure (I'm big on paying attention to internet infrastructure, it's a topic that's all too often ignored in media theory) - http://www.nytimes.com/2009/06/14/magazi....html?_r=1
