Just finished my fifth deck of core 2000, so now I can with certainty say I "know" at least 1000 Japanese words.

Today, when I realised that I haven't studied in 2 months and that the N1 is one week away, I didn't cry. Too much.

I finished adding new cards to Core 6k, so I started being harsh about passing cards again. I think my plan to start intensive reading after Thanksgiving may have been a little optimistic.

After a summer of little to no Japanese studies I'm finally back in the game. 1300 new words left on Core6k should be easy to take care of.
Today I started a new character in FFXIV on a JP server using the JP client. It's surprisingly fun, but obviously painful because I haven't dived in to native materials extensively until now. I understand maybe 50-70% of what is being said, so it's good enough. It reminds me of playing games back when I was 8 years old trying to decipher the English used. "I understand what "dog" means but what is a "Naughty Dog"? Good times.
I think I want to gather the new words I encounter to Anki and just play in small chunks (say, every play session should net me 10-20 new words to add to Anki). That way I feel like I am making progress not just in-game but in my language studies, too.

It was a month ago now, but I didn't manage to break 10k words for my first year of Japanese, and I'm on track to do another 10k this year.

I'm going to hit my two year mark on Jan. 29. That was the first day I started to use the flash card system on this site to study kanji. Well I just wanted to summarize what I've done at thus mark:
- Finished RTK 1
- Just passed the 15,000 word mark (Core 10k (really only abt 9,500) + 5,000+ words I encountered in novels).
- Some textbooks I went through: Genki I and II, Tobira, Kanzen Master N2 and N1, Japanese the Manga Way
- Read many light novels - abt. 16 or so.
- I am poor in listening ability I just finished going through a one hour drama in sub2srs. I'm am adding a second hour now. I have to get up to speed here. I really neglected listening and focused on reading.
Anyway, I hope to bump up the word count over the next year and spend more time on my listening ability. I have to thank this site for all the help!

I just repped a deck to full maturity. Total time spent so far: 31 seconds per card.

Finished reading こころ in November. Became a bit lazy and didn't do much reading but then got round to finishing 霧島部活やめるってよ. I am now reading academic books in Japanese for my dissertation, currently about 60 pages into my first!

Hello world, I'm here to say that something fantastic is happening in my life right now, it all started when 4 days ago I saw a post in this forum called "How to do reps fast", I become inspired and tried the approach out in the next day, learned 300 words in that day, and 430 words yesterday.
But I wanted to go to the limit, just to see how far I could go, so today I learned 1000 words! I'm feeling on the top of the world right now, like the Bruce Lee of the SRS.
I plan to learn 430 words a day in order to pass the 20000 words mark in a month, my plan is to learn them superficially and then focus on extensive reading and listening in the next months, I never saw someone who was stupid enough to try such I thing, so I am probably the first one, but it's seems possible!
Learning all that vocab in a month and then just relax I focus on listening, reading and using it makes so much sense, cause due to my own personal experience I realized that was easy to hear and make your vocab deeper once you actually know the stuff. 1000 words was a fun challenge, that I probably never will be crazy enough to repeat, but 430 is a breeze, so I don't see anything that prevents me to reach my goal.
P.S: I was at about 7000 words when I started this project
I'm using core 6000

20,000 words in one month?
I'm skeptical.

daily reviews average around 10-15x your add rate.
include lots of fails because your cards aren't mature yet, and we could be talking 10,000 reviews a day.
I hope you ate your wheaties.

Livonor, I don't know how many hours your day has, but for me I have only 24h a day. And over 16 hours I have to sleep, go to school and eat. So only 8 hours are left
I don't know if I can belive you but learning 1.000 new words in a day impossible. And if it would be possible you would feel like an half dead man.
Little math 1.000 words x 2 minutes per word (because you're fast).. 33 hours and after 1 hour of learning the learning speed drastically reduces without taking a good amount of a break.
Also 430 words a day is impossible. It would be like 14 hours of learning with breaks etc. it would be nearly doubled. Plus the 3-5 hours of review.
Good luck human whose day has over 24 hours.
