Or maybe you're just a professional student working towards your 3rd P.H.D?What makes you think I'm interesting in languages? I am just interested in Japanese, and I have just started learning it. Stop trying to troll me, it makes you look like an idiot.

Actually you're the one coming off as an arrogant ass and/or an idiot here. You just started to learn a language and you're talking about what is considered failure? Come back when you're in dtcamero's shoes and tell me how many days of studying you missed.

Did I miss something or is failure the word of the day here? Businesses, kidneys, and bridges fail. Humans do not fail in learning a language, its a multidirectional path pointed in one road towards fluency. I think achieving the final goal of learning the language triumphs the goal of not missing days spent studying. But seriously, come back when you have some more significant time spent studying the language. You will learn it is IMPOSSIBLE to not miss some days. We're human and shit happens, hopefully you don't do anything drastic like hurt yourself over failing to meet that days studying quota. You sound bitter as hell for no reason.

You guys are just promoting ignorance. There's no reason to argue with you because you will prove yourself wrong. A day will come when you miss your reps for that day. And sadly, I don't think you have a good enough personality to come back here and admit that you were wrong when that day comes.
May you learn a lot about life as you learn a lot of Japanese.

Egoplant, I hope someday you'll learn some humility through your Japanese studies, too. Cheers!

I've had several milestones reached.
1. My site has finally reached hit number 100,000. Although it's the most important thing, it makes me happy. The site also reached 500 members. So, that's another thing to be happy about.
2. I've been making new Classical lessons and more of my Kanji curriculum, but this takes a lot of research that my schedule often doesn't allow, especially on exam weeks.
3. Making some genuine, new Japanese friends. That's always a good thing. I'm not sure if this is a milestone, but it's something to be happy about regardless.
I really want to increase what I know in Japanese at least 50% each year until I graduate. This will be a hard task, but given what I've already done, that might very well be possible.
Right now I'm reading 西巷説百物語 By 京極夏彦. Once I finish that, that will be another milestone for my dialectical studies.

まあまあ ^^'
Though egoplant clearly has a rather, erm, extreme view on things, it's not like there aren't enough people who do. No reason to get riled up, guys =).
Also, Egoplant, this is a thread to make people feel good about their achievements, not to discuss the legitimacy of the achievements. Just because someone fails to meet your ideal doesn't mean they failed to meet their own, thus the personal achievement is just as valid.

Playing the victim doesn't work here, dearie. It's not like the people on the forum are just waiting for an opportunity to jump on someone to make themselves feel better by crushing the expectations of an idealistic youth.
Just revise your attitude a bit and I'm sure everything will be fine.

And Ego, saying something like

Well this thread just took a different fork into another side of interesting...
Well, I just want to say that I think it's ***** awesome how good you guys are feeling about your milestones. Aside the numbers, I am of the opinion that the most enjoyable (and therefore best) part of learning anything is feeling good about it.
Egoplant, you need not apologize. I'm studying Japanese because I want to express myself in certain ways which isn't possible in English. Given enough time, fluency in Japanese, however you define it, will be a part of who I am. Even if I fail to meet my studying schedule, the language will not simply dissolve. I am as certain of this as I am accepting of the fact that every time I drive my car, there is a chance I may die in an accident.
The point is that regardless of how much I may try to avoid Japanese, walk long enough in any direction and there it is, waiting, because all of my interests and pleasures lead me back to it. Failure isn't enjoyable, but it comes. It passes. Though what insecurities are there to make failure such a factor in determining how serious one is? It almost sounds as though you have judged others so strongly for their failure to study as an extension of your insecurities about Japanese. If you want something enough, failure isn't an obstacle. It provides perspective. After all, you have to fall to understand how far you've come.

Back on topic...
I just passed frame 1945 in the 6th edition. The reason it's a milestone (for me) is that 1945 was, until 2010, the title of the kanji book my junior high school students used. It's kind of a nice glow to note I've passed where my students where... if not exactly in the order they learned it of course.

Finished my first Japanese book today.
It was キノの旅, so nothing fancy...
(Have started several, though; I think I'm gonna continue on Harry Potter 賢者の石 - read about a third of it...)
