everyday I add new vocab from articles or from the N1 list. there are days however in which I add nothing.

I can understand dramas almost fully (there are always words one does not know).

I can also understand podcasts almost fully (tokyo local, fully, DIG not so much).

I finished N1 grammar like 2 months ago, but since it's considerably hard I'll had more sentences from other books.

lol, I dunno.

I started studying core6k about one and a half years ago. I studied new cards at random, so I got new cards all throughout the deck from the very beginning. This is what I thought about it when I started using it:

1/3 of core6k was pretty easy. I knew almost everything. I ended up deleting about half of these cards. I only kept the remaining cards because I wanted to make sure I didn't forget the kanji.

The next 1/3 of core6k was so-so. I mostly knew the meanings of the sentences, but I might have trouble defining the word if I saw it on its own.

The last 1/3 of core6k was new to me.

I passed N1 when I had about 1000 new cards left. I honestly don't know how I did it. I didn't really study for it. I didn't particularly get high scores, but I wasn't right on the line or anything.

I remember seeing a statistic that only a relatively small portion of words in Core6k are on that old 一級 wordlist. I don't remember the exact numbers, but there are about 10,000 words on that wordlist, and only 3000 of the words are from Core6k.

I feel that I've reached one of them plateaus, which hasn't happened in a while. I think that if I were to take the N3 right now I'd ace it, which is quicker than I'd expected.

That being said, it's a bit staggering how when I'm on N3 level practice tests I'm all confidence galore and once I go on to N2-level I don't even know where to begin. (even on relatively easier platforms such as kanjibox).

I've advanced in Kanken DS3 very cleanly from 6級 to 5級 after Anki'ing the official step workbooks. It's worked so well as a strategy that I think over time the material from these books could form the basis of my "one true Anki deck" dream. There's such a fun mix of activities and material in those books, and it tests production as well as reading comprehension.

I think after I'm finished making my way up through 準2級 by June I'll start going back down again to make sure I get proper coverage on the grade school-level kanji. I've estimated this strategy will give me an Anki deck with about 12,000 cards over the course of the next year.

About a week ago I finally finished reading ノルウェイの森． I decided to look up almost all the words I don't understand, so it took a good long while, haha. I also kept getting distracted in my studies and doing other things. Good book though.

Well today I'm on frame 700 of RTK1 really happy about that considering I was struggling with kanji for 2 years before picking RTK up. I literally had to stop myself from moving on 'cause I don't want to get bogged down later on. Also i did about 3 hours of concentrated listening to Japanese drama CD. I wonder why I've never listened to them before they're amazing and hilarious.

I have that book, still haven't read it. What I will do though is, read x pages a day, and mark words I don't know, in the same day or next I will add them to anki.

Did you enjoy the book? When I finish the one I'm starting now I will read that one.

After neglecting my RTK deck for the past few weeks, I finally sat down and powered through the 700+ reviews I had. I ended up with 706 cards reviewed in 2.3 hours, completely filling up several pages with my kanji reps. I'm super relieved not to have to stare at a massive number every day and feel guilty for not working on it. Time to go relax!

It ain't much compared to you guys, but I just finished part 1 of RTK. I also got past frame 300 right afterwards. ROAR.

Going to try to reduce my 3000 vocabulary deck reviews in 2 days. Hope this works.

Well, I did it guys,
I finally reached 1,000 cards DUE in Anki, it really didn't take long. Just a couple weeks of studying less than an hour and they really piled up. Thanks for all your support in helping me get to where I am now.

In a week I will reach 10,000 words in Anki yay!
I started to use the dictionaries more now and I add more "Notes"/"Sentences" in order to get more context.

My first post - Today, I joined the site, which is one milestone for me. Went through my first 350 kanji on the site and found it really good. I'm studying here, while also working away at N1 textbooks and other bits and pieces of study.
Recent milestones have been:
- Getting about 57% or so on one of the practice N1 tests.
- Reading 雪国, although I didn't look up every single word I didn't know. I've been trying to enjoy reading in Japanese without breaking the flow too much. Get most of the meaning. Read Great Gatsby before that.
- Going through the first half of the White Rabbit 3 flash cards. Another 450 or so to go...

I paused RTK1 at 872 frames to learn the Onyomi readings of the kanji I had learnt so far after reading about the Movie Method. What I did was I treated each different sound as a Heisig "primitive" (that I invented) and then simply added this word to each story (or made a new story with this word). Basically the sound was treated as a "primitive" that was part of the kanji itself.

The primitives all somehow had an association with the sound they were representing, and were almost always people, locations, or movies/shows/games.

So after 14 days I caught up with all the kanji I've learnt so far, so I can go back to RTK and I'm going to try learning both the onyomi and the kanji at the same time.

My RTK deck has about a 93% success rate, and I rushed-ish my Onyomi deck for a 88-90% success rate, but this deck doesn't have anything mature yet.

I just reached 10.000 cards!

Now I wonder what I should study between grammar, reading or more vocab...

Congratulations! What I suggest you could do is to study more vocabulary, this is what I did, while doing KO.2001 which is Kanji Odyssey, and also while working with the 総まとめ vocabulary book. During my reviews I had a word file open, and copied some words that seemed interesting out. After my Anki session I started up Google, and did a search with each of the words, and started reading. This way you can observe the words in their natural habitat, and you might also find a topic that interests you, and while you are reading about it, you can learn more vocabulary. So long as you don't care that you will not understand everything, you should be fine, don't worry about it and just do it.

Well, I just made it to 1183 Kanji in RTK1, after a short hiatus and catching up with 900 reviews.... So I guess now I'm starting the long ride down to the finish line

やった！！i fiiiinally spent a whole month with something closely resembling a normal sleeping pattern!!! i didn't go round the clock once!!! i even had an early night a couple of times when i was tired!!!!!

This month also marks 3 years of learning (or drifting with) japanese for me. And also, in a way, the end of that period in my life. i'll keep up with japanese as much as i can, but i'm going to be turning the internet off a lot and living a different life next. I'm excited to see what happens next!!! ^_^ gl everyone...

Got my reviews down to 600 from 3000 in 2 days. Now it's back to 900+. Should be able to get it under control very soon. I've also learned that I shouldn't add much cards. 30 for Vocabulary and 30 for sentences is my limit now. It's enough and it's a good pace. No more 50, no more 100 a day stuff.

Hope you succeed in your new endeavor. I hope you don't completely turn yourself from the Internet (always remember, the Internet is an amazing resource as well as a very bad thing as well). Just use to it to your advantage.
