Certainly. The answers are in the book. It's a great book for those, I think, who want to "tighten" their grammar knowledge. (I will do so someday, too). For now I have taken the All Abou Particles book, as particles are getting really annoying. You want to try to say/write something very fundamental, basic and you fail because of these little words you can't decide among.

@ta: You just deleted your old decks???! I really would like have seen what lead you to "fluency", I mean which compounds you learnt (since they are doing a good job for your understanding!). Would be a pity if you did so, hm.

Finished the core 2k today, I'm not sure if I should do another 4k vocab words or if I should just start doing sentences now. I assume that if your goal is to be able to read Japanese as soon as possible then sentences would be the best option. I'm quite anxious to get to the stage where I'm able to read Japanese with enough fluency to pick up new things from it (manga, light novels etc.).

Core basically is sentences. (on my decks at least)

Well yes, but they are very basic and only serve to demonstrate the context in which one might encounter the key word. I'm already past the level of grammar used in the core example sentences up till now.

Makes prefect sense. That would definitely mean diving more deeper into jp now. I've dived in a lot of times before(Immersion wise,context wise and now output/srsing/practicing is coming more important). I just need to keep learning.

Some people will call me weird if I say this but: (There are a lot of times in the past where I did nothing but jp from morning to night. I still do that today but not as much. I'm going to bring that same phase back, expect work on the areas I need to now)

im really feeling like that too. Especially with the amount of reading needed to get there.

Finished off my University Textbook today An Integrated Approach to Intermediate Japanese.

Finished off the Jouyou Kanji and some random extras which brings me up to 2205 total Kanji. (書き方)

Moving on to mine AAP. (only select sentences from each point) and continuing with Kore 6000.

Would like to finish AAP before June 18th ( 日本ちゃん、俺はいく！）

Then the trick is balancing My vacation and studying time until I get back in August.

Re-re-re-caught up on reviews while also updating and refining my overall system of self-study. Made two simple tweaks that are obvious in retrospect and improve my workflow amazingly.

just finished my first fiction light novel in Japanese (キノの旅１）！！！

Learned lots of new descriptive words and gun related terminology!!!

also, this is the first fiction book in any language i have finished in years, so it's kind of a double achievement!

can't wait to read the next one after i've finished srsing my new words...

Sometime last week I passed 10,000 cards on my sentence/vocab deck and 1,000 cards on my Chinese deck.

I skipped like 200 pages of this japanese bunko that I was reading. And this is a GOOD sign for me. So far I've read like 20 or 30 bunkos and this one time this book just not that interesting and the last part was just horrible (whether it be shown in a movie or described in a book I just cannot make myself care and follow what's going on and it especially does not get conveyed to be in book-format) and so I skipped the last 50 pagse and read the last page. The reason of me saying I skipped all these pages is good because I do this with english with books are not that good. I can just tell I don't like it and then I decide i will either not read it or skip pages and just read the interesting parts. PLUS this is good for the AJATT method and just letting stuff go that you don't really like go. of the 20-30 bunkos I read obviuosly not all of them aren't that good and some of them i sorta forced myself t oread for the sake of just reading the whole hting. The realy piss poor ones I obviously stopped after the first page since you can tell from the poor sentence structures that it's not well written ( but even books that are that piss-poorly written I usually have good enough eyes to not buy in the first place)

I also do believe that vocab is basically the fundament and the key for understanding texts you read, but I recognised lately, how less I know about grammar and that I'd blindly need to trust my 'beginner feeling' of what a sentence could be translated into equivalent English. I often get the hang or the gist of a sentence, the content, although I might not know some grammar points.

Please tell me I will master grammar, too, in time. (this wasn't the 'i need encouragement thread', was it?)

My deck has now more than 5000 sentences! A large parte of the sentences have more than 2 new words (the ones taken from the news and others taken from dictionaries).

Have managed to study about 1250 words of mandarin vocabulary and finish 2 japanese novels in the last month. Starting to notice increased passive understanding of Mandarin Audio.

keep at it and you'll be amazed out how much subtle grammar understanding, you're gaining.

You'll be able to understand grammar in no time. It just requires getting more used to context and Japanese. All you need is a grammar guide and an srs to get good at grammar. A lot of the grammar points are basically memorizing basic context/vocab. Because once you get past this, it will all become easy

I'm at 3000 vocab cards now(used to have much more but due to me deleting them and reformatting them. I started fresh). So far so good, I hope to get it to 6000 in a few months

It just occurred to me that I've been rather quickly Finishing multiple decks for a while without realizing the significance of it (for me), especially surprising since I've been steadily adding cards across those decks every day.

Have hit a few different goals recently:
learnt 90% of the smart.fm core 6000
learnt the N2 grammar
watched One Piece (with English subtitles) to the current episode >500


Going forward I'm going to:
delete all anki cards that I *know* I want my anki deck to reflect stuff I am learning rather than stuff I know / am learning. My deck is now over 10000 but many of them are too easy.
not watch anything with English subtitles
read as much as possible, especially short stories, novels and news articles
add vocab from books/manga/twitter/whatever (as opposed to vocab lists)
completely finish rtk quickly (I am at rtklite + about 300 I think)

I really like reaching a change of direction in learning
