Offically scrapped my past decks(did make backups just in-case). And I started fresh with a new vocab deck, sentence deck and production deck. I still have those RTK reviews in them, so it's good.(No way I'm doing that all over again). I limited myself to 50 new vocab per day. No more, no less. So far so good. I will start my sentence deck again but at a pace of 10-15, same with my production deck.

And crossed the 800 kanji mark the other day. Which is late, but still a milestone. I need to keep an eye on my time and not skip studying new ones like I have in the past few days.
And congrats to Nohika and Tori-kun

I am starting on hacking away my big ugly failed kanji pile of 800 cards. I've realized that my writing skills have gone down
so instead of drawing the kanji with my finger on the palm of my hand, It looks like I'm going back to pen and paper

I just knocked out 45 new 漢字 today, which is a huge amount for me, and hit the RTK1 halfway mark right at the same time. WOOOO!

Yesterday i reached 1370, which means i'm over 2/3 of the (RTK1) book. I started the whole thing on March 1, so please tell me that i'm awfully fast! ;-)

I understood most of the first hour of my「哲学の根本問題」class today....then understood close to nothing in the finally 30minutes due to a dramatic change in topic.....unfortunately I have no idea what that topic was :p

I'm started to understand how one can reach fluency in a language. It really comes down to desire, having fun, having a good method for memorizing and understanding. And the will to master the language(native-level fluency). Not really a milestone but more of a relization from learning japanese up till now.
The more apart I get from japanese, the more I come back for more and more. It's like a relationship: you hate it at times, but you always want to get back into it

Was feeling really discouraged and frustrated with my lack of knowledge lately. Still just a beginner.
But then today I read this:
And I read and understood 「オイオイオイ、ネェちゃん, 飲みに行こうか」! And I laughed sooooo hard when I read it! Felt so good to read something and understand it and then laugh. So good. =)

This is really an area where you want to be conservative and play it safe, because most Japanese people will not correct you if you're offending them in this way -- sometimes they won't even be honest if you ask them point-blank if you're using it wrong.

Recent milestone - or... recent SUPERFAIL / fun story.
I just got a phonecall from an unknown number. It was a Japanese girl, talking very friendly. I'm like "WTF? Who's this?" and go "I'm really sorry, but.. Ehm, I haven't saved this number, so who am I talking with?" and she goes "Hahaha, you're funny.. Now anyways..." and continues talking.
I try one more time: "I'm really, really sorry but..." etcetc, and she just laughs and continues.
And all of a sudden I get invited to Taiwan together with her and to of her friends for Golden Week.
WTF!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
I was like "Ehm... yeah, about that. I'll check my schedule, I'm.. I'm really not sure if I can make it. Ehm, 連絡するわ!" *click*
I understood who the girl was when she sent me a mail afterwards (A not-so-close friend living in Tokyo. Met her twice.) She was not delighted to say the least.
The good part - I understood her Japanese.
The fun part - I got invited to Taiwan by an unknown girl (!) and her (female) friends.
The bad part - She is obviously really pissed at me now.
The lesson - Save phone numbers!!!!!
Thank you Japan for making girls even harder on me.
I'm going for a jog...

Yesterday I had to like 800 reviews in Anki (without new cards counted, ugh) and I just bloody didn't feel like doing so. but today in the morning I opened my eyes around 6 o'clock already to do the whole bunch of 1300 cards or so, haha XD
My milestone: half of core6k done PLUS the vocabulary I collect on the internets about 500 and RtK2 200

Edit: I forgot this bloody grammar I came across recently.. finally I'm coming to GRAMMAR; ARG!

Success!
I have just started Subs2srsing with minimal furigana (I was reliant on it). This will lead me to doing dramas, I hope.
Also, realized two things:
1) If your reps aren't fun and your a avoiding them then a few questions to yourself about how to fix that can make all the difference.
2) Doing a three stage process of cards at the creation stage is incredibly powerful. A) Create cards; B) Process vocabulary; C) Add grammar notes/diagrams. Basically, you're set to go at it once you are start using the cards in Anki and this just makes everything so much more interesting and attractive to do.

Kanji statistics
The 15381 seen cards in this deck contain:
3004 total unique kanji.
Old Jouyou: 1940 of 1940 (100.0%).
New Jouyou: 187 of 196 (95.4%).
Jinmeiyou (reg): 312 of 645 (48.4%).
Jinmeiyou (var): 2 of 145 (1.4%).
563 non-jouyou kanji.
Jouyou levels:
Grade 1: 80 of 80 (100.0%).
Grade 2: 160 of 160 (100.0%).
Grade 3: 200 of 200 (100.0%).
Grade 4: 200 of 200 (100.0%).
Grade 5: 185 of 185 (100.0%).
Grade 6: 181 of 181 (100.0%).
JuniorHS: 934 of 934 (100.0%).
FINALLY HIT 3000 Kanji!!!
Aiming solidly for this years goal of 20K vocab now. Feel like my Japanese has reached the next level going from 10K to 15k.
Also got my results for KanKen 5級... got 164/200 = 82%! Pretty happy about that.
Todayさ、 I'z talking to my flatmate for about 3 hours in Japanese and her bf who's indian and doesn't speak Japanese after looking quite bored the entire time turns to her and asks (right in front of me)... "is he Japanese?".. she's like "no, he's kiwi (new zealander)"... and he's like "does he speak English?"... she's like "yeah, he's kiwi"... n he's like "where are his parents from?"... she's like... "new zealand". Hahaha...
Felt like it was a small victory when someone can't tell if I'm an English speaker or not despite all the evidence that suggests so.

Yeah, so much stuff just becomes second nature but it also makes you realise how much you don't know. Especially when you're at the point of being able to talk very fluently but then you come to a point in the conversation where you're trying to describe a situation for the first time and the words don't magically pop into your head for a change! Though, I definitely find that if you just keep on keeping on then those eventually start disappearing too.

So today I finished my reading for finals unexpectedly early so I started to work out of my rut of reviews that has been piling up. This is my first time seriously being behind in reviews since starting Heisig In late January. It feels good to know it's possible to get back out.
I did the 345 Kanji reviews in 425 reps in 75 minutes today. Fastest I've ever done Kanji reviews. All thanks to reading about the http://www.speedbagforum.com/timer.html in the How to do reps fast post. Awesome little timer for Kanji review. Not sure I would use it for Sentences or not but I guess I'll see on wednsday when I start my 800 reviews from Core2k6k.

I finally got to a point when I really have to stop running from it. I have to man up and face it.... reading DOBJG cover to cover.
I could beat around the bush for 10 years and ask a 1000 questions here and to various natives but usually all the answers are already there, just waiting for me to read them.

So no point in worrying too much about it. We just need to keep learning.
No matter what language we know, we still have to keep learning. Even when someone reachs native-level fluency
(Although, not as much as you did to get there of course)

Yesterday I added my 2000th kanji and successed in finishing the kanji sensei level on Kanji box (I had failed twice), a program on Facebook
2011-05-10, 1:48 pm
Scrapped my past decks and re-started new decks. So far so good, I'm just trying to find a new pace and trying to find more ways of learning more daily now. I definitely have a good srs pace but I need to find ways of doing more outside the srs. I'm in that phase where: I have to keep learning but what can I do to do more now?(In order to reach the next-level)
