Post Your Recent Milestone Achievement Here

gyuujuice Wrote:Just finished 完全マスター文法2級. I skipped over the exersies but I'm going to go back and finish those too. It's so weird -- whenever I came to a point I didn't understand I would leave it and come back and understand it after doing some other points that aren't related. I guess the less puzzle peices the easier it gets.

皆さん、頑張ってください!
Yeah, i noticed the same thing. Maybe getting better at reading the rest of the sentence allows you to figure out the part with new grammar?

I am up to lesson 14 of 27 in Japanese For Everyone - exactly halfway Smile I plan to finish by December 31st Big Grin. Then Kore, then DO_JG, mining everything. And in the middle of that, I want to take JLPT N3 or 4 next December, and I want to start tutoring Japanese. But I'd better get back to anki now Smile

Studied the whole day today.
Took another N2 mock test (this time the one from July 2010).
Although I got sections where I improved, I also got sections where I got less points than last time. The total percentage is EXACTLY the same as last time: 80%
And if I compare that to a 2kyuu mock test that I took over a year ago (September 2009) where I got over 70%, I can't really see that much improvement *sigh*
Kind of sad :/

My recent achievement?
I got the first prize in a speech contest for foreigners here in Japan.
Still, there's a looooooooooooooooooooooooong way ahead of me.
Just for a little while, can I be happy about that, though? Wink

I am getting Pokemon White + a special edition Japanese DSi for CHRISTMAS. BOO-YEAH. (I am a pokemon lover.)

I played a copy from a friend today briefly (through the intro) and was able to understand things about 50% of the time - I got the jist of the whole thing. (Not that it's hard, but whatever. Shh. I'm happy.)

IT WAS AWESOME.

We're ignoring the fact I've played almost every (English) pokemon game known to mankind, so it's feasible at this point that I would know what the intro goes through, but MINOR DETAILS. I AM SO #(*$* (#*$(#* EXCITED.

Also, I picked up my first word from context through it! There was a word I didn't know, but due to what I knew previously, I could guess what it was, and I was RIGHT!

=DDDDD I am oveeeeeer the mooooooooooooooooooon.

Without the fact that it was in Japanese I am impressed. ( n_n)b

For me I saw an add in Mandarin and I understood what was written -- small but fun. :>

You should write 2 books: First on how to understand "self agency and neuroscience" lecture and the second about how to do it in Japanese after studying for only 1.5 year.

Seriously... how on earth did you do it? I remember bits and pieces of information about your process: you ditched RTK, went for a record in vocab and watched tons of dramas with and without sub2srs. But what about grammar, sentence comprehension and production, surely you didn't pick up those during your time in Japan right? Smile

Btw at 1.5 year I dream of watching Dragonball or Pokemon and understanding more than half of it Wink

Last night, I was with 2 Japanese friends and one of them bumped into a classmate who was chinese and with the chinese girl there was a Japanese girl who we didn't know. Anyway, while my Japanese friend was talking to the chinese girl, I was just talking to my other friend in Japanese... and the Japanese girl (in all seriousness) asked me if I was from Japan. んな訳ねえだろうと思ったけど、嬉しかった。

She thought I might have been a ハーフ, said I looked 10% Japanese. Wtf? Haha i'm fully kiwi as bro. Musta been my Japanese Smile

Just passed FF13(japanese) a few days ago.
Feels awesome as in end of January 2010(when I got it). I got around half way into the game and my ps3 broke on me(one of those 1% chance it goes crazy on you). Anyhow I got a new system back October. And I noticed that recognize/reading/understanding the japanese to a good percentage(only a few words stumbled me).

gotta get more games in japanese as it's a good means of staying more immersed in japanese.I think I know how one learns languages fast. You just gotta do stuff in the language as much as possible.

Definitely does.

My goal is to get more j-games for my ps3=more time to get immersed while playing games. My whole computer is in japanese, the games I play are in japanese, music, shows, etc are all in japanese. Srs of choice(anki) is in japanese. Now that I think about it, it all comes down to keep getting enough contact within the language to keep learning more.

I watched my first Korean drama (Kim Soo Ro, 32 episodes, it's about this guy who hatches out of an egg and becomes king or something) and it did a lot for my listening comprehension.

..but now I feel guilty whenever I watch something in Japanese. Life is cruel orz

I got pokemon Black (YAY) and can understand 50% + in some places (varies from none to all), and am randomly mining vocab from it cuz it's fun.

I've also started playing my kanji game and learning readings. It's fun, but sooo stressful sometimes. Stupid kanji with a bajillion readings...

Ditto.. wish the Kanji had furigana tho.. I'm stuck with Hiragana because of that. I can follow lots of it, but there's always a few bits that totally stump me.

Milestone.. I don't think I've achieved anything of huge note. My speaking still sucks. but compared to even 6 months ago I can hold long conversations in Japanese only in type. Which i guess is something.
