Anki iPhone app dropping soon - who's buying?

Grinkers Wrote:I'll be buying this as soon as I find a way to pay for it! I hate Apple.

Is it possible to make a US itunes account, buy anki, and then sync with my Japanese iphone (and my Japanese itunes stuff)?

By the way, is there a reason the price for the app is so different? $24.99 vs 2900 yen.
Yes. A device can sync with multiple accounts, at least the last time I tried (I have Canadian and Japanese accounts).
Mcjon01 Wrote:I have both a Japanese and American account, and everything I download shows up in the same place and syncs to my iPhone together just fine. So, that shouldn't be a problem.

Can't wait for the Anki app to show up.
It's up now on both stores. I'm currently making a US store account to try it out. The US store better like my credit card... Tongue

Multiple accounts can sync with one device, but I'm guessing multiple devices can't sync with one account? I guess I was thinking about it a little backwards. From your device, are you able to access both itunes stores, or is this only on the PC side? I don't recall seeing a way to switch regions on the iphone.

PC-side only. I don't have a Japanese credit card, either, so I had to set up the account without one and then rely on giftcards whenever I want to buy something.

EDIT: Huh. Well, I had never actually checked before, but it seems that you can switch stores under settings by signing out and signing in with the other account.

AnkiSRS bought, decks downloaded, and reviews ready to go!
As Mcjon01 said, you can sign in and out of each of your itunes accounts in the store settings (Settings --> Store). I do it quite often with my American and Japanese accounts.
If only Apple would fix the bug that only allows you to paste a password into the password field directly after a reboot. Rebooting to buy an app is annoying. Hope it's fixed in OS4.0.

That said, I have also bought the app and am currently doing my reviews...at work...hehe.
Purchased, downloaded, and about to set everything up. This is so awesome!! Big Grin
Wow... I just unconsciously went on a crusade for an iPhone... all for the sake of this app @_@
Am I doing something wrong or is media not supported at all yet? I sync through dropbox but not getting any media through the app yet.
Sigh. I had to register a new credit card as my info was stolen in January. It says I'm not entering a valid security code. Then I tried paying with Paypal and it says "sorry, credit card processing is down right now, please try again later."

WTF
According to a google groups post, media is already implented but it isn't working in any of my decks Sad

According to Damien's Twitter post, "Apple have approved AnkiSRS! It should be live in the store within 24 hours. Media support and other features in beta testing and due soon!"
So I take from that media support's going to come in an update.
I hope it is soon... My two most important decks have media that is essential. Either way the app is looking really good. Money well spent.
Wish I had some spare money, the screenshots on the appstore make it look very sexy.

Great job resolve.

Re the price in yen, Apple only lets me choose a "price tier", and I picked one that is 24.99 in USD - they set all the other currencies based on that, but are probably bumping it up to include sales tax, sorry. :-(

Re media support sethg, I plan to push an update to Apple in a few days at most. Then another week of waiting for them to approve it, and you should be good to go. Better this is thoroughly tested before it goes live to a wider audience :-)
Just saw your tweet resolve- $17.50 is what you get from $24.99? Yikes- that's a 30% cut for Apple. No wonder they're make so much cash.
Does Resolve only get $17.50, even when somebody buys it from the Japanese store? That's like $33 after the exchange rate.

Haha, you think this is bad? You should see what artists share was in a standard music business model.

Also most of the goods you're buying have ridiculous markups with even less cash going to the original producer.

@Resolve congratulations on your App. I know I said I'd buy it but my plans changed a little bit and I had to go the Android way, I've set up a donation instead to show my support.

Hope you'll get really rich on this because you deserve it Smile

You say that like it's bad. From what I recall Apple got a standing ovation when they announced the profit sharing ratio. I'm guessing selling software in a brick and mortar store gets the dev a lot less than 70%.
Hey, saw this post during the my morning kanji reviews, so downloaded the app, synced and then reviewed my grammar deck on the way to work! awesome!

One small issue to far - realised I had 2 tae kim decks online, so accidently synced both. How do I now delete the older (unused) one from my Ipod Touch? The app doesn't seem to have a deck delete function?

Apart from that all seems good - can't wait for media! cheers Smile

Is the iPhone expensive?

Left to right slide brings up a delete button (or maybe it was right > left).

WalMart's going to sell the 3GS for $97 soon: http://money.cnn.com/2010/05/24/technolo.../index.htm

But it's the monthly fees that are a biznitch. I don't value data plans that much, hence why I'm on a basic cellphone. Also, I've heard that AT&T is a terrible carrier and won't allow tethering even though the iPhone fully supports it.

I just bought an iPod touch for cheap.

In real life software sales, 5-10% of retail price goes to developer IF YOU'RE LUCKY!

Other digital distribution channels (e.g. Steam, Xbox Live Arcade), royalty rates are also 1-30% (it's not exactly well known, as developers are not allowed to talk about it). So yes 70% royalty in such a huge marketplace is frankly insanely generous on Apple's part..
bought the app as soon as I saw it was up Smile

Thanks Damien for all your hard work and for making it possible for all of us to take our study to the next level.
