I haven't updated my OS in a long time...I refuse to pay their ridiculous prices, and downloading illegally always takes way too long and confuses me Tongue

I am thinking of getting an iPhone though, as it looks pretty nifty. I just dunno if I can handle those monthly payments... and I am convinced that AT&T is the remainder of Satan's last visit to earth.

I wouldn't be surprised if AT&T loses its exclusivity deal with Apple once the contract expires, which is relatively soon I think (?). Wait until you can get it on another carrier. They are pretty awesome though, I love mine (I've got a 3G, not the new 3GS)

I've had nothing but problems with their phone and internet services. Not just normal problems, but vein-popping, headline-murder problems. Their custmer service makes me want to...how do I say this politely...stab myself repeatedly with a plastic knife Big Grin

hmmm i'm looking at the area coverage and it says i'm in the "moderate" area.... there is no 3G area near me except near where i work (which is about 30 mins away) that sucks...

EDIT: i see they have a 30-day trial period with AT&T... i might check that out...

I wonder if the writing recognition requires a multi-touch capable mac. There should be no technical requirement since you'll only have one finger on the pad at a time..

Oh, no, I watched the movie 切腹 when I was a kid. I know better than that!

I had been wondering why writing kanji on my trackpad was not possible.

Are you for real? I mean, I could understand if you were talking about Windows, but OS X?

Downloading it is no harder than anything else, and all you have to do is burn it on to a CD and install. There's absolutely no copy protection or any hoops to jump through.

And Apple's OS upgrades are reasonably priced anyway. You can get 5 licenses for $150 (Leopard) or a single license for $99. Snow Leopard is going to be $29 for current Leopard owners and $50 for Tiger and below for 1 license.

You're thinking about buying an iPhone ($800 unlocked; $300 in a contract that turns into something like $2,400 worth of data/phone service over two years) but you can't spend $100 to upgrade your OS?

Snow Leopard will only set you back $29, so wait for that Smile You'll need a Mac with an Intel processor though.

Well if you bought an unlocked version of a 3G you could get one for under $100 from someone upgrading to the 3Gs, and I'm sure you'll be able to buy an unlocked 3Gs for $20 more than normal price if you know where to look.

I doubt you'd be able to find an original iPhone for under $100. If the 3G launch was any indication, I imagine that prices for the 3G iPhone will be around $300-400, for the summer at least.

When I torrented and then tried to install 10.5 there were a lot more steps than that, requiring various programs. In the end it didn't work for me.

Besides, the new iPhone is only 199$, and the old one 99$. 100$ is too much to upgrade my OS because all the changes are always pretty insignificant...I bought OSX when it first came out, because the difference was huge between that and OS 9. But 10.2, 10.3, 10.4, 10.5 ... it pretty much is all the same to me. The 'upgrades' seem trivial I think.

The only reason I upgraded to 10.5 was to be able to run its Dictionary application with the Japanese dictionaries and add a custom Chinese dictionary to it. My 4 year-old Powerbook probably won't handle any more upgrades.

I think I'll have to wait a few weeks to buy one. All sold out, and I was too silly to pre-order. After having to go through AT&T Tech Support Hell again a few days ago I only hope they offer the iPhone on other providers eventually.
