Japanese Punk Rock

#1
Hello.

I have been trying to find some good japanese punk bands, but i have been doing a pretty bad job of it so far. Pretty much i just know the Blue Hearts and Going Steady.

I am sure there are a few people on this board that know of a few bands.

I am looking for things that sound like Lagwagon, The Decendents, NOFX, Face to Face, The Deadmilkmen, The Vandals, The Dead Kennedys, etc. (Music that you can understand the lyrics because this is for my listening practice.)
And if the lyrics are similar to these bands (political, humorous,など), that would be a bonus, but i dont really care what the people sing about, ultimately.

So if any one has any suggestions I would love to hear them.

Thanks.

Shonen Knife, Guitar Vader, Guitar Wolf (although they might sing motly in broken English,) Melt Banana (maybe you can understand the singer), 5,6,7,8's (can't rememmber if they sing anything in Japanese, so many of these bands like to sing in "English"), Deerhoof (not Japanese, but singer sings some stuff in Japanese) and PeeLander-Z (again, not from Japan, but are all ethnic Japanese, and might sing some stuff in Japanese, I forget though!)

Maximum the Hormone. some songs are more metal , some punky, some ska, some well a little odd.
infact just listen to Rock N Roll Chainsaw for an amalgamation of about 5-6 genres. No 2 songs they write are the same.

I can't quite put into words how much i love them.

I'm really digging Acidman right now. Their sound is hard to describe, but it tends to be fairly laid-back, with well enunciated vocals for your listening practice pleasure.

I am also looking for punk type bands. I have a list of rock bands to check out, and I'm not done yet but here are the punk type ones I've found:

Mongol800

Definite pop-punk vibe going on here. Fairly clear lyrics I think.
The second video reminds me the Bouncing Souls.

Coaltar of the Deepers

the description says they're "Japanese Thrash shoegaze indie noiserock"
makes sense but sounds like something that would fit in at Warped tour... so I'll include it here.

That's all I've found so far.

Of course Japanese music has its own genres too. Apart from trying to just find music I like in English, I've been liking stuff from Okinawa in general. It seems like a lot of the pop music from there still uses the sanshin.

As you can see from my name, I have similar tastes as you! Although to be honest I've been listening to heaps of j-music overall, I haven't found anything really punky. Just browsing over my j-playlist, I think the closest think you'll like is Jinn. I got into them from hearing the Code Geass intro. They have some really rocky songs, which have the same catchy chorus breakdown bits as lots of punk does.

....Yesss. Finally, some music or media I also like. I was really into japanese hardcore before studying japanese at all, though I'll say even now knowing japanese doesn't aid understanding them much. A lot of them use English or don't have lyric sheets on albums! Thankfully Envy does.

Lately I'm starting to think that Paul Erdos was right about music ^_^

My vote goes definitely to Teengenerate, in the early to mid 90s they've been the best fscking rock'n'roll band on the planet!

The Electric Dragon 80000V soundtrack is quite good. The music is by Mach 1.67, aka the movie's star and director and some others. Some of Bunodata's (Tadanobu Asano's music project) tracks are also good.
