Did anyone else changed old german keywords, because he didn't like the keywords in the book?

Please remove the keywords in the first post or Fabrice will do it for you. The German author does not want them on this website or any other website for that matter even though everybody can download the same list for free with the program KanjiGym light found on the authors website.

To use the keywords with Firefox just install Greasemonkey, the substitute keyword script, then go to the page "about:config", create a new entry named "greasemonkey.scriptvals.http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/7118/Kanji.Koohii: Substitute keywords.Teskal|KeywordList". (with Teskal being your nickname on this website)

Now change all spaces in your keyword list to "_", then join all the keywords using "%20" as a seperator, hexencode all special letters of German, that means change e.g. "ü" to "%FC" and "ä" to "%E4". The result should look like "eins%20zwei%20drei%20vier%20f%FCnf...".

Then set the new config entry you just created to this text string. I have send you the proper string in a PM.

Surely a list of kanji with associated meanings/keywords isn't something that can be copyrighted/prevent from being used?

I can understand if he had listed the primitive elements, but the Kanji themselves?

If anybody needs the German keywords, just download "http://www.kanjigym.de/main/cms/downloads/KanjiGymLight-Java-1.1.zip", and unzip it. You'll find "KanjiGymLight-1.1.jar", which you can also unzip as it is just a renamed zip file. Inside there you find "data/heisig.db", which is a database of all keywords (for English, German, French and Spanish).

Unfortunatly it is obfuscated, so we need this zip file with some java source. Extract the file into the root folder of the extracted jar file, then execute "javac *.java" and "java main" to get this output:
1, 一, 1, uno, one, eins, un
2, 二, 1, dos, two, zwei, deux
...

This is moot. Fabrice deleted this stuff before, so he probably will do it again. It is his website and therefore his decision.

As the specific order of the kanji and the selection of the keywords requiered a certain amount of creativity, this list surely is protected by law. Some exceptions that still allow the use (e.g. as fair use) might apply in some countries that have such laws.

Well, a text is just a string of already known words and it still gets protection under copyright laws.

A list of kanji and their keywords is just the same. Every single entry is unsuitable for protection, but the complete list is a creative work.

I had in the list, which I removed a column with english keywords, the english keyword is junior. I don't know if it was changed in the english errata, too.

You shouldn't post them here anyway, this isn't a data repository, this is a forum. I have no problem with you posting them on Google Spreadsheets or other hosting service

Indeed, German (and French) keywords have created quite the storm here in the past. Long story short, not so much the author, but his publishing company doesn't want the list in the open. If you can convince them otherwise, good luck to you. I tried before, but only found a willing ear in the Spanish camp. Hence the inclusion of Spanish keywords in the script.

Apart from the approach described by Xaarg, there's also the option of inserting them directly in the script. But all that may soon become obsolete when Fabrice adds this kind of functionality to the site.

I didn't change them in the beginning but after starting learning Japanese, it became increasingly difficult to tell many of the more similar ones apart.
Its true, that the German language has finer nuances for creating keywords but this doesn't help much when you're more interested in Kanji and Japanese Learning. After some time, the Japanese (Kanjivocabulary) meaning kills off any German nuances.

Hm, I read some threads here but I think there was no solution for me.

My idea would be to change the English against German keywords so I have them if I look into my account either from my PC (with Internet Explorer) or from the iPhone (with Safari). Is there any possibility to do so?

Well and today you can even download them as a text file from the web page of the author. Get http://www.kanji-lernen.de/KanjiKaiser.zip, extract it and look at "Daten/deutsch.js". Seems like the publishing company changed their stance and another inquiry for inclusion of the keywords in your script might be worthwhile.
