JLPT 2009 test takers thread

#26
Im going for 2-kyuu. I'll carry on with KO2001 for now, and hone in on the UNICOM vocab and grammar books closer to the time. I don't expect to pass- I don't think I have enough time to prepare- but it will spur me on to study, and I can then take it in 2010 (or at least take something- L2 or L3 of the new tests!)

I think I'm going to go for 2-Kyuu. I'm nearly positive I'll fail but I'll actually be just a few hours outside of Atlanta the day before the test so I might as well do something interesting with the rest of my weekend.

My plan is simple. Finish both KO2001 books, throw in the Kanzen Master Series sentences, and just listen to and read other sources as much as possible.

BTW registration still isn't up on the website yet right? I checked and can't find it anywhere. All I can find says to "check back during the middle of June".

I have a question about this book if anybody knows off hand. Does the 1級 grammar book contain all the grammar of the 2級 book? Or do I need to study both levels in order to get all the 1級 grammar. I ask because I plan to just study for and take 1級 since I'm just using it as a motivator to study and don't need a language cert. right now.

Has anyone passed 1級 and still not felt comfortable including it on a resume? I think I have a pretty good shot at passing 2級 this year but since my output is still weak, I am not sure I would actually use that to market myself to a potential employer. JLPT is multiple choice with no output so I could see where someone who is very skilled at test taking could pass 1級 and still not be close to fluency.

I think I have a very slim chance to pass 1級, if I took it today. But I'm still far away from fluency.
Fluency has more to do with how well you know what you know than how much you know.

I'm thinking about taking 2級 in December, if I do I'll have to go to London to do so which is sucky but not the end of the world.

I only started studying Japanese seriously last October when I went to Okazaki to study for three months at Yamasa. If I would pass 3級 now it would be borderline, but to aim for that in December would be too easy, so that's why I'm attempting 2級. RTK almost done, this week should see the 2042nd frame come and go. After that I was planning on AJATTing my ass off, but also work my way through some school related material.

できるかなぁ。

I'm going to try JLPT2 in december. Currently working through the "例文で学ぶ~" book for JLPT2 kanji & vocab (btw I have a spare unused copy of this book if anyone is interested in buying one). Only about 1/3 done so still plenty to go but this is pretty kick ass for vocab. Also going through KM grammar.

According to the MLC level check I'm around 80-90% kanji, 50-60% vocab, 50-60% grammar, so still short but I think I can learn it by December.

I might take 4級 in Honolulu. I started learning Japanese last Summer but I haven't really started until now. First I am going with vocab but then going with grammar and kanji.

L1 book contains only L1-specific material.
