The Layton series on DS might be good vocabulary builders since it's text heavy and is about a whole variety of subjects, it also has some voice over too. And usually games made by square-enix (any) are good vocabulary builders kanji-wise because they often use kanji quite a lot, guess they love kanji haha. I personally find it easier than for example a game like Pokemon which is ひらがなばかり. Also, DS has a lot of history/biology themed games which naturally are good resources for vocab building.
*(hugging my DS) god I love my DS!

I bought a DS thinking it was going to help, but generally any real Japanese game has kanji written so small and in such a poor DS resolution that you can only read them if you are an expert already. I mean you can see their outline, but to see individual dots and small strokes and such was just giving me a headache. Specifically I'm talking about RPG type games, of course the Japanese learning games such as the kanji trainers are good and have large fonts.
