I LOVE THIS SITE! DON'T EVER LEAVE ME AGAIN!

I spent all yesterday and this morning taking back any bad things I said about this site. That was painful. Don't leave me... I love you!

Hehe, don't worry it's not going anywhere. In retrospect I should have edited the maintenance page with an explanatory message. I was just racing against the clock most of Friday, always thinking the site would be back up in the next hour, but it took a lot longer than I expected. There was also the danger of putting it back up with the malware code and getting blacklisted by Google.. so better to be careful and take the time required.

It's quite a nasty malware that is. It creates a kind of loop between the website and the trojan. Webmasters who cleaned up their site without getting rid of the trojan would be hit again soon, and webmasters having removed the trojan but visiting another infected site without sufficient protection may have gotten the trojan again! Woohee!

I'm off now but I'll check the site tonight.

I actually thought this was just for the big site upgrade that's been talked about for so long. But when it lasted all day and on into the next, I got worried. Damned Windows. I think everyone who can should really dual boot... it's just such a pain to avoid all the threats targeted at Windows.

I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say we appreciate all the hard work and time you put into restoring the site! Great to be back.

For what it's worth, I'm on the latest Windows 7 RC and use Avast 4.8 home edition and came out unscathed. I had installed noscript after the fact but quickly remembered how much I hated noscript. (Great for browser security, irritating as heck to use on a full time basis!)

I too said alot of bad things. I felt miserable all Friday w/o my Kanji reviews and stories. Great job getting it back up. BTW, you might want to use SSH (scp) instead of FTP for transfers.

Yeah I came out of this experience with information about using SFTP on the current web host. I continued to use FTP a few times however because the SFTP connection is much less stable, also it seems like if you try to reconnect too quickly, it refuses connection for several minutes.

But that makes sense... at first I thought what difference would it make if there is a keylogger. But I guess the trojan is not a keylogger, it would be much easier for it to sniff the FTP connection locally.

I'll try to stick to SFTP in the future.

The free version of Aptana Studio doesn't support SFTP, so I'm using FileZilla.

I hope the malicious people behind the evildoing get some horrible affllctions....

Again, keep up the great work.

The night before the site went down I put off my reviews until the following morning. By the time I turned on the computer, it was too late. So now I have ~400 reviews to do... Big Grin

Yeah ファブリス, great work on fixing the site! But is anyone able to do reviews of the expired and failed kanji? My stacks are hung up on "loading"...

akahige: hmm.. the javascripts should auto-update, try clearing the cache from the browser, or just CTRL + F5.

ファブリス, it looks like greasemonkey is the culprit. If I turn it off there's no problem, turn it back on and the review pile just hangs. (btw I'm on a Mac, FF.) I guess I'll try to reinstall the greasemonkey scripts, and greasemonkey itself.

Yeah sorry about that, I was far too verbose with the news post already so I didn't mention this :

My local copy was not exactly the same as the production site, the flashcard review script (review.js) had some minor changes that were never meant to be uploaded.

If woelpad is reading this: you could update the script if its a minor change, but otherwise don't bother with it, if I can publish the refactored site next weekend as I had planned, the script will change completely. The review page front end code is not refactored, since it was pretty bad to start with.. that code was rewritten from scratch, it handles connection errors, time outs, undos, etc.

Glad to have ya back....haha I had a fat review pile when the site went down...... I was about to do them (176) early morning style (I'm a nocturnal person, usually do my studies from 11 o'clock at night until 8-10 in A.M).......I came to do them and....! Haha after checking here more than a few times yesterday, and still no dice, I was getting a bit worried! I feared a massive review pile of 400+ (I finished RTK1 two weeks ago but the "sprint" to the end has me doing some sizable reviews).....and if another day or two passed I would have had to start from scratch in anki! but I'm lookin' at 307 in the pile, not too bad.

Haha Good to have you back!

So happy site is back, and thanks for all the hard work getting it back up. And now I'd better swear off the forum until I hack my way through the review forest... over 400, yikes!
