how to overcome a deadlock at 650 ?

#1
Hi!

I haven't added many new frames in weeks.

I continue with my reviews, about 65-75% correct answers, having already 540 in the last pile.

Am I really the only one who is having difficulties adding new frames?
(working full time + healthy relationship)

I am not motivated as I was before. who experiences the same as I do?

also, the correct answers-rate is quite low. unfortunately most of the user's stories online don't really work that well for me. and I hardly come up with own stories.
I suppose, this is one of the main reasons why I am stuck right now.

pleeeeeze, there must be some stuck out there.
no?

those who were stuck before: how did you overcome the deadlock?

I just recently (3 days ago) got rid of my most recently deadlock. My experiences with RtK has been flaky at best, but I still think it's the best.

Basically, I restarted twice, and on this most recently attempt, I'm finally up to almost 1700. However, during this journey, I've been deadlocked at around 800, then around 1100, then again around 1620ish. Now I'm back and slowly adding. I've found the best to do is if you are at a dead lock, don't stop adding cards, add 5, maybe 10 cards and that's it. Hell, even if you can only do one new one, just do it. It will get you over it faster.

Good luck!

Second that. Only add 1 card a day. Thats all you need to do. If you tell yourself you *have* to add one card then you will make some time for it, and when you sit down you might feel like going through 5 or 10 or more. But you have to take that first step and add 1.

65%-75% Is not bad! You are doing great!
I've done worse than it most of the times. Keep pushing it hard and you'll succeed eventually.

About the stories:
By all means, check the 1 kanji 1 image thread. That will give you great ideas.

Having a full time job and a healthy relationship is Not an excuse.
In fact, is quite insulting to assume we have nothing else to do.

If you use other's stories is at your own risk, memory works better if you can have associations, that's a mnemonic, an aid to help you associate concepts.
What better than association you already have in your thinking.

Better yet, tell yourself that you WANT to (add one card/your goal). Do you WANT to remember better? Then maybe you'll consider other options. You didn't make your own stories yet or very seldom, then try it for a while!

To make your own stories; always give yourself a chance to find a memory association before looking at shared stories. Then if you like one of the shared stories, "remix" it with your associations.

Overcome it by thinking about your goal, and what you want, rather than spending mental energy focusing on being "deadlocked". Then please report and let me know if that's new age balooney or if it works Wink (works for me).

And of course if you didn't give yourself a break in a while, consider to give yourself a break (that also counts as not focusing on being "deadllocked", since it's a strategy towards your goal).

If you really don't have any time (really?) then you could try writing down 30-40 keywords along with their primitives on a piece of paper and taking that to work. Then, when you get a spare moment, look at the piece of paper and try to come up with two or three memorable stories. Do this four or five times throughout the day and you'll be ready to start SRSing as soon as you walk in the door.
