Somehow that text made sense... The only word I paused for a second at was pweor. It might also help that I've seen this kind of text before.
As for the Japanese version of this, I have no idea.

I don't know if that 55/100 stat is true. I think I remember reading somewhere that the vast majority of native english speakers can read text, even when it's mangled like that.

I would go so far as to say that every literate native could read that - some may take a bit longer, but...

The other 45 percent = internetless people with minds that weren't trained by reading typos?
