RTK1 4th Edition has the long vertical stroke first, then the top right->left stroke second. I use WaKan for an electronic dictionary and it has those reversed. The top stroke first and then vertically down for the second. (It could even be abbreviated into one). Can anyone give a solid answer on who is correct?

I'll merely say that I start in the top right corner, and come down to the left, and then change direction to go down to the bottom left. I usually count that as two strokes, though sometimes they feel sort of continuous. Next comes the left to right horizontal stroke, and finally the middle to bottom vertical stroke. So, 4 strokes, but always starting at the top right---right to left. It does agree with the site http://kakijun.main.jp/, which while showing the order of the strokes, does not actually show the direction of the strokes.

This is an error in Heisig's book, which he's since corrected in the cumulative errata at http://www.nanzan-u.ac.jp/SHUBUNKEN/publ...lative.pdf

Yes, strokes 1 and 2 often blend together when I'm actually writing with pen and paper, much like the first two strokes of 子 also blend together.

You might even write the whole kanji as one stroke, I remember seeing that on this video 漢字認識, although the program seemed to have a little trouble recognising it

kanjidic has stroke order info included? I see that WWWJDIC has links to stroke order animated gifs, but I can't find any info on stroke order included in kanjidic.

I don't think kanjidic has stroke order information. Maybe JEDict is getting it from somewhere else.

You're right, I'm wrong. JEDict gets its stroke data not from kanjidic, but elsewhere:

Thanks, I've seen a few places with animations (such as WWWJDIC mentioned above and the sites used by the greasemonkey scripts for this site) but I was particularly interested in the static image that ziggr included because I'd like to include stroke order in mnemosyne but it doesn't support animations.
