I just wanted to point ot a little tip. This is my third attempt at RTK 1 and this time I am flying through. the way that this has been possible is by,

- installing the greasemonkey script that turns the failed pile into a review.
- when I have finished my reviews, I can then review my failed cards easily and around half of them come the second time around.
- i study the remaining failed cards in the study section
- i then review the failed cards
- i keep doing this until the failed stack is empty

One of the reasons for my failiure in the first two attempts at RTK 1 was a huge failed pile that built up and made the later kanji more diificult. leaving early kanji to just sit in yur failed stack is the biggest mistake you can make. By reviewing your failed stack it is much better than just stying it and clicking on "learned".

How can studying them and then immediately reviewing them be good? Doesn't that test short term memory?

It's just a way of keeping your failed kanji stack to a minimal level and I find that it works. Better to get them flowing through your piles than have them just sitting there.

Any review of your failed stack is better than just clicking on "learned", I think.

I agree with this. Better to wait until the end of the day before clearing the failed stack, but it SHOULD be cleared every day. Letting cards lie around in the failed stack is a shortcut to failure.

This is fantastic! Quick question though: When you review, does it put them back in the box that it would if you just hit "learned," or does it work like you never failed it in the first place?

It puts them in the same box as if you clicked "learned". It's just a difference interface to it.

You know, I study them manually for 3-4 weeks before I even put the kanji into this site's SRS. That way, I get 95-98% right, and my "fail pile" is not so discouraging. It's totally psychological, but it keeps my spirits up to see such a high number.

After i finish my reviews i always go through the fail pile. I never let it sit. I write them out again while trying to re-inforce the story in my head as i write it. If its in the fail pile the next day then its not in circulation. The longer its in circulation the quicker it will be learned.
