Non-JP iPhone and e-mail

#1
Hey there,

(Seemingly) like a number of people on here, I've been looking at the possibilities of using an iphone for study etc. but have a question.

It obviously supports Japanese input and display, but is email from a non-Japan iphone trouble free when eg. sending mail to a Japanese cell phone user? I've done some googling but the only concrete info I can find revolves around emoji issues, something I very rarely use (or receive from Japanese).

Anyone got any real-world info on this, please?

Thanks!

My iphone is on an american account. In 6 months I haven't had any trouble e-mailing back and forth with japanese contacts, though use of japanese is relatively infrequent. The mail program in general is satisfactory as far as I'm concerned.

Thanks yukkuri_kame.

I guess being more specific would help - I'm particularly concerned about encoding issues/mojibake etc. My research suggests that it isn't possible to change/set the character encoding in the mail app.

The iPhone won't 文字化け assuming the recipient is using the defacto standard for JP email on their end. It's odd since Mail for Mac OS X uses unicode by default for Japanese unless you change a setting from the terminal.

Haven't had any mojibake problems. My wife has them on her mac (occasionally, and I wonder why that is? And what to do about it?
