Use Smart.fm (and other webapps) as desktop applications

#1
For this tip, you'll need a plugin called Refractor for Firefox. If you use Google's browser, it has this feature built in from the beginning.

Quote:Refractor creates a Prism web application from within Firefox. Users can manually create web applications using "Tools > Convert Website to Application".

The extension can also detect embedded web application bundles on web pages and prompt the user to install the bundle.
Put it simple, opening a webapp as a Prism application is like opening a new Firefox window for a specific webapp. The diference is that this window will have a simpler user interface and won't make use of Firefox plugins -which means that it will run flawlessly. Besides, as it will be an independent process, it won't crash if you have any problem with your regular Firefox, and vice-versa. Another great feature is that you can create shortcuts anywhere in your computer, linked directly to the webapp just as if it were a desktop application.

Create a Prism app from the main page of Smart.fm, and set it up so that the navigation bar is displayed. Now you can open Smart.fm from anywhere in your computer with a mere double click, sign in and study any of your lists with Iknow, Dictation or Brainspeed within a fast window with a clean interface. Furthermore, if you click the "home" button, you can go back to Smart.fm's main page whenever you want.

Of course, you can also create Prism apps for individual sessions of Iknow/Dictation/Brainspeed, but in that case you can't go back to the main page and chose a different list or activity from the same window.

Enjoy. =)
