I've tried it, and generally liked it. Switch to all kana or all kanji from the start though. A good way to breeze through basic grammar, especially if you move quickly, although later courses do get much more challenging.

They were the first site I used. I did like them. The option to have romaji, kana or kanji mode is cool. But when they updated the site you could no longer print out the pages. They were not very helpful when I asked about this and suggested I got the books which went with the site. I did and found there were more exercises in them and it saved printing out so I used them and stopped subscribing. But there are only books 1-3 out atm. I also kinda joined cos I liked the videos that they made, but found after a while that they were allot of chat and not much learning. Kinda ashame really. When I was last on which was well over a year ago they kept saying they would do vids that were more lesson based, I am not sure if they have. They are a good site. I think I would have stuck with them but I have been able to goto local lessons for the last few years and I didn't have time to work on both. The only problem I found with the lessons was there were 'extra vocab' lists that were at the start of each lesson and quite often it wasn't used that much in the lesson. But just as you thought it was ok to skip that list a few would get thrown up in the lesson. But then that balance of getting lots of vocab and using it is hard to make.
