This is a simple tip I read in a book about "mind maps".
When facing new kanji, especially at the beginning of a new session of making mnemonics and building images, you may sometimes feel like there's a black screen and no ideas seems to come up.
A good trick is to give the mind something to play with. Don't wait for something to come up or search in the dark for too long.
Because the memory is a big association machine, give it something, anything, and it will automatically start giving you new items, just by association. So give it an object from your room, a character from a movie you saw recently, etc.
