Tim's big Beijing adventure

#1
OK, so I finally get to the point where RTK and AJATT are starting to pay off and my Japanese is advancing like crazy and what happens? I get a job in Beijing. SCREEEEECH. Turn the Titanic around!!

Yes, I'm off to Beijing to work at the China Daily. I'd always thought I'd tackle Mandarin after Japanese, now it looks like it will be the other way around as I have a perfect opportunity to replicate my AJATT procedures with Mandarin.

My question to you guys and gals is, does anyone know of any good resources in Beijing where I can at least maintain my Japanese and French levels while I go full out on Mandarin studies?

Well done landing what sounds like a great job!

Have you checked out Centre Culturel Français (http://www.ccfpekin.org/)? In fact, Shanghai has a massive French expat community, Beijing probably comes second...

Good luck keeping up your Japanese. After a prolonged period of exposure to Chinese I tend to automatically substitute Chinese readings for kanji in Japanese text!...

頑張って!(wan2 zhang1!!!)
