Question about Anki

#1
So I downloaded the pre-made Heisig anki deck to practice my Heisig revision, I have also added stories to all the kanji I am reviewing, about 200 so far (kanji without stories have been suspended). However, with the current set up I only get get tested by keyword. I.e. it gives me the keyword/s for the question and I have to write the kanji (and remember the reading) for the answer. What I would like to do it for it to give me the stories that I have input into the 'Story' field as the question, then for the answer give me the kanji. I have played around in some of the deck properties settings but it's all pretty confusing. Anyone have any idea? FYI I am using Anki 0.9.9.6.

Many thanks.

I don't understand what you mean. You want the stories on the questionside with the keyword? (I would not recommend it however, there's discussion from time to time wether or not it's detrimental).

It's quite easy to fix however. Open Anki, go to Settings->Deck Properties. Pick the model used for the kanji cards and press the Edit button. Go to the Card Templates tab. Move the %(Story)s field from the Answer field to the Question field. Close.

Sorry if I didn't explain myself properly. In addition to the current setup which is keywords on the questionside, and kanji & readings of the answerside, I also want cards with stories on the questionside and kanji on the answerside.

Ok, what I've done is created a new Card Template. It's called Card 2 (Stories), and the question is the Heisig story, and the answer is the kanji. However, next to it it says 'used 0 times', but Card 1 (Recognition) says 'used 3007 times'. What's going on there? And how do I start using Card 2 now?

You decide which templates should be used when a card is created. Since the 3007 cards have already been created for you, you have to do it post-creation. I don't know how it's done, try looking around in the Edit All window.

this is covered in the faq

Ok cool. I'll give it a go and if it doesn't work I'll give up. (I've read through the FAQ but it's hard for me to understand).

Go edit all > actions > generate cards
