True, but they more or less have to caution people who would take advice from a single article.
At a meditation retreat I went to once, they said you should never meditate on a full stomach. Digestion takes a lot of energy away from mental focusing.
Then you have also many people experimenting with fasting for a few weeks for health or for spiritual reasons.

Note that this study is on the elderly; unless I'm missing something, additional studies would be required to extend this conclusion to the general populace.

Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that high calorie foods are often low in nutrition as well. Obese people are often the most malnurished segment of the population.
