I recently bought all three Remembering the Kanji books on Amazon and I've gotten through all 276 of the sample frames and now I'm at a loss as to what I should do for the next 3 weeks or so while I wait for the books to arrive. I read on this site somewhere that reviewing too much can put the kanji into your short term memory and should be avoided, how does this work exactly? is it true in you people's experience?

There is nothing really wrong with reviewing all the time, persay. The problem with constant review is that it retains the information in short term memory, rather than transferring it to long term memory.
The system is designed to give you flashcards at specific times to have the most efficient short term to long term memory transference.
One large mistake people make is to keep reviewing cards before they are due, then by the time they leave them alone they are in a higher box, and way too much time goes by before you see it again.
Stick to waiting until flashcards expire, and you should be ok, then just wait for your book to come in.

Ah I see that makes perfect sense cheers for clearing that up for me Dustin, so is there anywhere I can find more frames while I'm waiting for the delivery?

surely there is a Japan foundation library somewhere where you live?
our JPF library has about 4 RTK books? 3 henshall books, heck a whole shelf of kanji learning books.
I get my henshall from there, because some idiot stole the henshall book from our university library and i have no idea where it is.

Here's how it seems to work. Add cards and do the initial review. Probably about half of those cards will expire the next day. Review them as they do. The following day, the other half will expire. The cards you've successfully reviewed twice will probably show up again in several days two a week. The more you review them successfully, the less you will see them. You literally won't see some kanji for months if you remember them well.
If you have to study a kanji a bit, leave it in the failed list and give it a little special attention before setting it free.. But you don't want to let the failed list get too full either. I usually see if i can remember all the failed kanji from the keywords. If I can, I clear them out of the list. If not, I study it a bit and leave it there for awhile.
So each day I do the following: Attempt to clear the failed Kanji > Review the cards I added from the previous day > Review the expired Kanji > Add more cards

Also, I wouldn't worry about short-term memory problems. I think it's very linear... the more you review, the better you will be, and you don't have to worry about which memory bank it is going into, if you do it often enough that makes you comfortable... so just give 'er.
