Book suggestions. (Non-Japanese)

#1
Decided to post this in a more appropriate section...

I'm interested in finding books on language, linguistics, and/or memory. Obviously the book doesn't have to cover all those subjects at once (could just focus on one of them.) Anyone have any suggestions?

Part of the reason I ask this is because I'm looking to add a a second major at my university. Right now, I am considering linguistic anthropology.

Thanks a lot!

There's sooooo many books on linguistics, with diverging theories, I'd recommend just finding any sort of introductory text that covers all the bases so you can branch from there--why not contact the related professors at your university and ask what texts they use or would recommend for pre/outside class study. Or find the syllabus from them or the Web...

Edit: Earlier I was reading excerpts of this book: http://www.amazon.com/Psychology-Languag...0805860185 (Psychology of the Language Learner: Individual Differences in Second Language Acquisition) at Google Books, and it seemed like it really delved into the nitty gritty neural/memory stuff in relation to language-learning, but I haven't looked too deeply, so I'm not positive it's worthwhile. It also seems fixated on the 'measuring intelligence' debate that's had people flustered since forever (the previously mentioned linguistic theories often rotate around the 'innate' versus 'learned' debate).
