Uh huh. I was hoping to use the order/words from KO, with iKnow's sentences and audio, inside Anki. Seemed like the appropriate place.

There's an iKnow thread with more general conversations with links from Resolve (creator of Anki) for getting iKnow info into Anki.

After all the talk about iKnow on the forums, I figured I should check it out.
Is there an iKnow thread here for beginner-lower intermediate level of Japanese? I see a lot of you are on a much higher level.. Was hoping I could make some iKnow friends who are in similar position and skill.
Couldn't hurt to become friends with those on a higher level either. My iKnow name is tamagotaro. Please add me ^-^

So I finished the first set in iKnow! It was -very- helpful. I noticed that the Core courses started getting easier pretty quickly into the set. I don't dread them now near as much as before.
BTW, Hashiriya made a 2042 item list for RTK, so apparently the 500 limit is increased or removed. I can't find any info to state whether there's a limit now or not.

I'd like to personally thank you all for your efforts here. Last week I started using these list in iKnow. Things went very smooth. When I returned to iKnows regular lists it was like being pulled from a cloud, lol. So やっぱり thank you all and I hope you continue the effort やっぱり.

Am I right in assuming that you guys have all finished KO2001 already? And even after the book iKnow is still pretty hard? Why is that? No? Yes? Erm, just wondering...

Erm, just wondering...I've not completed (or even started) KO2001. Personally, I think iKnow is difficult or at least awkward because of it's word order and testing format. The words are organized according to a list by frequency(newspaper perhaps) rather than by yomi, and tests all begin by asking for the word in question with kana rather than kanji (until you reach 75-100%).
On testing: The words you are going to learn are shown before the test, but, unless, you've got super memory, by the time you reach the tenth items it's kind hard to remember whether こうしん is 更新 行進 高進 工新 or whatever other incarnate, for example. There is a lack of context. The review get easier as you progress, but initial they are a pain in the !@#. These KO list are making them less of a pain.

Hi. I've downloaded the "Compiled 01-90"-list into a new deck into Anki. But now Anki mixes the cards up => The first card I get is "I watched a comedy show on TV last night." but this sentence is way back at the end of the list.
I have enabled the option "Show new cards in order they were added".
I think this problem destroys the idea of Kanji Odysee. Is there any workaround you can imagine?

What I did with regular iKnow was create a column for ID and sorting purposes. I imported from that. Problem with Anki though, it only shows cards either randomly or in order added.
I'm going to add a request to allow a "Show new cards in order of - " and You'll select which fact section you want as the organizer.

well, time to revive this project
i finally have got a little more time now.. i'll take 361 - 375 and try to get it done before this upcoming Thursday... these lists are really benefiting me a lot i think.. i think what i will do is keep going through them just reading them on iKnow and then after i get all of that done i'll drop the sentences in Anki and then work on the writing portion too...

Hashiriya, has Smart.fm allowed importing/copying of lists into other lists yet? That was forgotten in the turn over. When that happens I or someone else can create the next two merged lists.
2009-03-22, 12:11 pm
since i have not been creating merged lists... i was unaware of it... you might want to send an e-mail to somebody about it... i'll post about it in my shout box (i got the progress bars fixed by doing that i think lol)
2009-03-22, 2:10 pm
List copying works. The 500 limit is still in effect, however.
2009-03-22, 4:02 pm
Ok, since I'm in a barracks during my combat training these four weeks, I have a VERY SLOW wi-fi connection so I cannot merge lists. Can someone do that with 181-270 and 271-360?

Question: In terms of frequency of use vocabulary, how do you think KO2001 compares to IKnow? Since KO2001 goes by frequency of used kanji, it should be pretty close to iKnow vocab frequency right?
Assuming you did all of KO2001, how much vocab in iknow would you have covered?

The first 2 course (400 vocab) are supposed to be the easiest of those. The rest are in random order.

I'm just about to finish Core 4 and I've already done the first 2001ko set. The 2001ko set was MUCH MUCH MUCH easier. Insanely easier. Seriously.
Small, easy words don't get as much usage as you'd think. But they help form bigger words, so they're very helpful to know first. 2001ko provides that. I don't know if it does it by chance, or they purposefully picked the easiest words they could find that used that kanji... But it's much easier.
In fact, doing 2001ko's combined list made Core 3 and 4 MUCH easier, too.
At this point, I'm finished Core 4 tonight or tomorrow, then I'm doing the combined lists until I've got them done. Then I'm going back to Core.
I think someone said earlier that there's only 1100 kanji in 2001ko, but that's not true. There's only 1100 in the -books-. If you've got the CD, it goes to 2001. At 2-5 vocab each, with some overlap, that's 4000 to 8000 words or so.

KO2001 is a million times easier than the 6000 core series.. i think the main reason is that it is easier is because you are playing around with the same kanji in the example sentences for the most part... i will be completing KO2001 before i complete the rest of the words on iKnow myself..
as for my grammar, i have been lately writing down a lot of example sentences on a piece of paper (recently was seru and saseru) and taking it to work with me... i work Fri-Sun every weekend and i talk about the sentences in my head while i am working
it seems to be working great so far
I hope by the end of this year i'll complete KO2001 via iKnow and got all of the grammar squared away but time will tell for that..

I seriously hope that Smart.fm will take my suggestion and create a new list based on frequency but organized in a way like Cerego did. Seeing that they general feedback that Cerego's format is easier to learn, there's definite merit there.

Doesn't give me the extra practice of writing the sentence by hand, but more convenient. It seems to me, nobody else mentions this feature, and I can't understand why.it seems to be working great so far

Got my KO2001 CD in the mail last week, and this project seems a great way to bring KO2001 into my current study regimen. I'll be glad to pitch in and take 376-390.
Since I've never tried to create my own list before, I'm not sure how long it will take...

As it happens, not too long.

I can take 391-405 and 406-420 as well, if no one else has called dibs. I should be able to get them finished before the end of next week.
