KO2001 and iKnow (Group Effort Request)

#76
if you learn the kanji from RtK and grammar you wouldn't need the english translations really... iKnow is a good starting point but i imagine picking out vocab from movie scripts etc. would have a more natural japanese flow to them...

I've been using the script to a series I watch to make a list in iKnow. Lol.

It just occurred to me that I could just put the sentences into anki. I think I, initially, I was hesitant to do this because I feared I'd be sick of the show when I was done. Now, I'm starting to get sick of iKnow.

If anyone wants to do the ones I'm working on, feel free. I've been so swamped this semester. I haven't even added any new Anki sentences in two days. I haven't learned anything on iKnow in two days...

If nobody takes them, I'll eventually do them, but I don't want the community waiting on me for a list that I won't get around to doing for a little while.

Sorry.

I'll edumacate you in the ways of the saxamaphone, if you'd like.

Do you think that you'll post a compiled KO2001 list with *all* of KO2001 eventually?

I'm wondering if I should start on some of the smaller lists now, or wait until the whole thing is done.

Also, out of curiosity, how long does it take most people here to finish a list of words? Five hours? Ten? I haven't got my copy KO yet, but when I do, if I know ~roughly~ how long it takes, I might be able to help out every now and again.

A list of words from the 15 kanji in 'set' as defined by Nukemarine? When I was doing them all by hand, with iKnow's interface, I think it was taking 90 to 120 minutes or so. I've written a script now and I can do it in about 30-60 minutes. Unfortunately, my script is nowhere near ready for release so others can use it.

As for the complete list... As long as others are helping, I'll keep going. If it seems like the project is going to die, there's no way I'm going to be able to complete the whole thing myself.

If it dies out completely, I will probably work on a script that takes the kanji and makes automated wordlists by itself... But the lists will have nothing to do with KO2001 and probably very little to do with how frequently a word is used. It depends on what kind of data I can find.

the project won't die completely, don't worry.... it's on my next thing to do list after RtK... i should be finished with RtK in about 3-4 weeks from now and i will be helping a lot more with it... i think it makes good sense to learn all of the jouyou kanji readings asap... i wanted to keep doing lists here and there recently but my fiance is coming to the USA again on monday (from Tokyo) so i been kinda busy...

I wish there was a list of the just the words for each kanji... That would make this so much faster for me.

If a separate list had existed such as when we were doing sentences, I think it would be just a matter of uploading them all via the API. Then it would just take going in and attaching the sentences.

Amthomas, iKnow limits lists to 500 words max. For that reason, a compiled list of 90 kanji seems a good buffer (about 300 words or so). I think you're safe starting with the compiled lists. At 300 words, it should take a while depending on how you do it. Plus, there'll be 3 compiled lists done soon by the looks of it (1000 words).

Wccrawford, you've been doing a lot. I feel bad as I'm not helping. You are right about the time in that it takes about an hour for me also. When I get settled in Africa, I should be able to help out with the rest (if it's not done yet).

Yeah, I'm using the API to do the brunt of the work right now. I've written a really shaky php script to create the list in order, and use definitions from EDICT when iKnow doesn't already have them. Most of my time is spent using their horrid interface to attach the sentences.

I was kind of hoping someone had a KO2001 vocab list typed out and hadn't shared it yet, or knew of one that we didn't. Guess not, though. Smile

Don't feel bad about not having time. I'm charging ahead right now because I -do- have time, which is pretty rare for me.

The API doesn't have a way to attach sentences, but I think I can hack together a way around that and then I can really get some lists done. I've posted on their boards about it as well, so maybe they'll add it to the API. Along with the other stuff that's missing.

Done.

Deebo said on the last page that he couldn't do his last one for a while, so if he hasn't done it by the time I'm finished the other 2 I've already got, I'll be taking it as well to finish this list.

Have I mentioned that I hate sentences? They're such a pain. I think they take most of my time. -sigh-

Done. Another list complete!

I'm not going to claim any more yet. The sentences are driving me nuts, so I need a break from them. Besides which, it'll be quite a while before any of us get through studying all 4 of these lists.

List 29 (421-435)

http://www.iknow.co.jp/lists/52183

I've split the 第一回 第二回 第三回 into three seperate entries. Also, in order to help avoid confusion during reviews 母 母親 お母さん have been defined as (speaker's) mother, mother, and mother (respectful) respectively. I've done the same for father.

This might be a noob question, but can you download the audio from iKnow, so I can put all these useful sentences into Anki?

There's an Anki plugin and this is the wrong thread for that. This is about putting KO2001 into iKnow.
