I know this was not originally a pictograph, but if there ever was a kanji that looked like its meaning, this is it to me. It looks exactly like someone slurping miso soup 味噌 with his pupils and eyebrows focused down at the bowl in front of him and thick lips blowing to cool it off. The mouth off to the side re-enforcing the idea it is going into his mouth. BTW, this kanji also means noisy as one might sound slurping miso soup and reads, SO. As in "Mi So noisy!"

I always thought 麗 looked pretty hilarious, myself. Looks to me like a cartoony face gritting its teeth and holding up its fists. Grrrrrrrrr! Ironic that it's the kanji for "lovely", but that only makes it even more funny to me (and easier to remember!).
