分かる is an intransitive verb, so that's not surprising. What IS surprising is that Japanese people actually do use を at times (check on google if you don't believe me). I guess it's just one of those things where a mistake slowly starts to become more and more common. Who knows, eventually it might become a transitive verb.

Some of the Japanese that I talk to greet me with a big こんにちわ.

I think that is similar to saying," Who daht?" or "Wazzup".
People just like to do weird things like that. In fact, my Japanese friend writes,"good nite" because it's "cute".

You should try getting some games that are region free. If you were to go to Japan with your PS3 some games might not work.

Nah that won't be a problem, I have a spantacular 60gb Japanese PS3 (complete with backwards compatibility).

Are there actually PS3 games that aren't region free?

two things:
1) finish RTK by the end of January
2) reach 5000 sentences by the end of the year (2000 per semester and 1000 over the summer)

- visit Japan ( a little holiday at least )
- finish RTK1, maybe RTK3 as well
- more vocabulary, especially more specific vocabulary, outside of the usual everyday talk / TV drama range
- more language exchange, more talking in Japanese
-> get as near to native level Japanese as possible

1) Update Japanese blog at least 3 times a week
2) Finish RKT1
3) Finish Genki II

To finish RTK 2.

I am 2/3rds done with RTK 1. Hopefully I could finish everything by June. Then I could spend the rest of the year reading.

Maybe next year, I will take on RTK 3. I want to get a good running first with this Kanji, like I have with Hiragana and Katakana.

Srsly.

You can take any grammatically incorrect phrase, google it, and find hundreds of thousands of people who are wrong. Some rarely, others on a daily basis. I wouldn't trust random hits on Google (or the internet, for that matter) as a grammatical reference for any language if the way the internets butcher English is any indication of overall referential quality.

Well, things do change. This year, in Portuguese, we are having a reformation. A lot of the accents marks are being dropped, some accents are being extinguished. People stopped to use them and now they are out of fashion. The same will probably happen with a few verb tenses.

Yeah, just look at all the ら抜き言葉 in Japanese. Old people still consider it wrong to say 食べれます instead of 食べられます. Same with dropping the い in -ている. Young people even use 全然 with non-negative phrases like 全然平気だよ. Languages sure do change and Japan has HUGE changes going on as we speak because of the huge difference between the generations.

That's pretty much 1 every 3 and a half days.

People have completed Heisig in 20 days. Even if you only do 10/day, you'll complete it well within a year.

trust me, what you're saying isn't even a small target. It's not even a target at all practically, lol! (no offense) Believe me, you'll be able to finish the book well within this year. You could easily do 10 per day. Even so just set a goal for yourself every week or something. Like "50 kanji by next week friday" or something. TRUST ME. You'll own this thing. In. The. Face.

Yeah, definitely. Kanji always used to be rather hard for me. Then I found RTK. Soooo bloody easy. I love it so much. Suddenly 50 kanji a day didn't seem like such an obscenely difficult task compared to the five a day I was struggling with previously!

Exactly. Look also at stuff like よくわかんない. First time my friend said that I gave him a weird look like he was trying to mess with me.

My goals are those of an absolute beginner living in France and with only 30 min to 1 hour to dedicate to my Japanese studies:
- Reach frame 1000 of RTK (I'm at frame 450)
- Finish Pimsleur's 90 lessons (I'm at lesson 20).

If I can go further, I'll do it for sure, but I'd be also happy to write a short story or more in my own language, plus reeducate my rusty body into a physical activity, plus avoid spoiling entirely my social life and sleeping hours.
