Sound with Anki

#1
I've recently been adding sentances from iKnow (with the intention of shadowing the audio when doing reviews).

I ripped the audio from the site with a firefox addon(DownloadHelper) and then put the audio in with the sentances in anki.

It sort of works, but Anki sometimes crashes and I usually have to press the play sound button several times to get it to work, which makes shadowing the sentance quite difficult =(

Anyone else had the same problem?

Have you recently updated Anki? A new release a few days back said the audio handling was reworked. You might try that.

I gave up on Anki's audio a long time ago, though I'm considering doing some TTS now (if the new Anki release handles audio without problems). Smile

Ah yes, I'm downloading the update now, I didn't think that would fix it. I'll try again when it finishes.

[edit]Yay, it does work =D
Strange that an update appeared just when I needed it =D

Oh by the way, what's TTS?
[edit]Sorry should have searched, Text To Speech, right?
I was actually thinking of doing that too after reading a few topics about it on the forum. Do you have you any suggestions on what software to use? And also does the resulting speech actually sound real(or close enough)? I mean I don't want to sound like a robot...

I would not recommend TTS, at least not for shadowing. The technology is impressive, but it can come out roboty at times and it can't even parse some stuff correctly. If I were you, I would stick to proper audio from radio and TV.

I've done a similar thing, works fine for me everytime. Smile

You don't need to rip the audio yourself, I've uploaded it all in folders here.

Are this files recoverable? I'm trying to make a deck and add sounds from iKnow but I didn't found any semi-automatic way.

There is a plugin for Anki which will import iKnow material for you. See the wiki.
