i got this sentence from yahoo!辞書 but i don't know how to translate the で in it is it part of ください?. can anyone help me?

廊下には物を置かないでください。

The で is part of the verb so it's 置かないで ください. Which means by itself Please don't put/place __.

I think the whole sentence basically translates as: Please don't put/place the object in the corridor.

No... break it apart like this:

廊下には 物を 置かないで ください

Don't put things in the corridor.

The verb you are looking for is 置く

I highly recommend that you learn some very basic grammar (like verb conjugation) before you go on, or you will have a very hard time. For the meantime, you might want to stick to J->E, until you get some really basic grammar down.

Btw, putting conjugated forms in some dictionaries, like yahoo dict, gives you a sugestion of wich word he thinks you want to know.
Yes, in the case of 置かないで, it suggests 置く.

This is one of the many little grammar points that can bite you early on. For things in the affirmative it's straight て form + ください. For things in the negative it's ない + で + ください.

From things taught in textbooks you would think that it would be definitely be なくてください, but sometimes grammar and practice are a little at odds with each other.

yeah yesterday when i asked for help on this simple simple sentence i looked in the textbook was getting sentences from and it turns out that the verb in -te form with ください comes up right around the end haha
