Is The Book Really Necessary

#1
Since this site isn't affiliated in any way (I don't think) with Heisig I'm wondering if I can ask...did all of you actually buy the book?

It seems to me that with the first section downloadable (pdf), and the remaining kanji and example storeis here on the site, there might not be a need to actually buy the book itself. The only thing I guess I'm really missing out on is the indexes- but are they absolutely essential?

stevesayskanpai, many of your recent posts are on topics that have been discussed to death ad infinitum.

Please do a search and find the threads. Thank you.

As kfmfe04 says, there was a thread on this topic a while ago. Do we even need Heisig's book anymore?

I bought the book.

There is more to it than just that first section. More things are explained later and study practices evolve over the course of the book.

Here is another thread with a lot of good points. Basically, the answer is "No", but you are better off with it for many reasons.

Here is my favorite quote which pretty much sums it up... by me, hee hee heeWink

"You can play baseball with a stick, not a bat, and a tennis ball. You could eat soup with a fork if you really try. Yes, you could learn the Kanji from this site alone, but you will work twice as hard and less efficiently then with both."
